Re: Skink and His Enclosure
The cage looks great! How long have you had your schneiders skink? He looks a little thin....How much and how often do you feed him? Is he feeding well?? Best wishes....

Re: Skink and His Enclosure
Thanks, He eats well, i feed every other day, anywhere from 6-8 gutloaded crickets, depending on how many he eats. The pictures were taken when I got back from a vacation down to charleston, the guy we had watching the house may not have fed him enough, he does look a bit thin in that picture, but im not sure if its the angle or not, Thanks for the concern. I'll have to post a few more pictures. incase I do need to have him pack on a bit more weight, does anyone know good ways to get a skink used to eating live food only to eat a f/t pinkie. Something with a bit more fat on it may help out.

Re: Skink and His Enclosure
Do to my reallllyy slllllloooooow connection I couldn't download all of the pictures, but in the ones that did come through, he does look a little thin. For Lizzie (the schneider's skink at the college) we feed Savannah Monitor canned food everyday and Juvenile Bearded Dragon food free choice with calcium added every few days. She occaisionally eats her plants in her cage, so she likes greens. She seems to be growing quite well on that diet. The veterinarians are happy with how she's doing now. The crickets she was fed before had hidden and multiplied in the substrate, and were eating her feet off and eating on her back and tail. It took us quite awhile to get the cricket problem totally solved (during her stay here at Winter break we totally gutted her cage and cleaned it and the accessories with my barn cleaner then used the vinegar and scrubbed and the peroxide and scrubbed) finally all crickets were dead and eggs were nonexistant! She does love her monitor food though. I don't know if this will help you any. Good luck with your skink.

Re: Skink and His Enclosure
He's usualy a fast eater, so after I add crickets I wait till he's done eating his fill and remove the uneaten crickets. as for plants i'm thinking about adding live plants, but im in the middle of a "cage shuffle" and he may be moved up to a 55 gallon tank, im still weighing all options. What are the best plants to use, cactus like desert plants? (of course not those with spines) I was'nt sure about feeding him any type of canned food, and have never really seen any of the caresheets mention it. That would work great if I could supplement his diet with that, tuesday when I go to work (petco) i'll have to buy a can and see if he'll eat it. thanks.
