croc skinks officially expecting
Our croc skinks are officially expecting! The bulge on the "male"s side has gotten waaaay bigger. The male is allegedly supposed to be bigger but we suspect that is false, as our female is bigger. Anyways, the lump is very firm and a second sluff in close proximity indicates gravidity.
YAY! Please, form an orderly line for all purchasing inquiries

nearly half of skinks actually give live birth, but these ones do not. Should be ready to have pics by january unless the mom ditches the eggs last minute or the eggs mould over. We're fighting the humidity here, which has to be up to 50% more in the cage. Crazy.
In this case, the mother defends the nest and actually puts eggs back in the nest if they are removed. Apparently they make a little family group til the baby is old enough, and the babies get carried around on mom's back til they are too big. How awesome is that?

Prices are yet to be set, we're thinking perhaps around $250-300 canadian, but that may change as I contact local reptile clubs. Keep in mine that petstores can charge up to $700 canadian for wild caughts
Don't get all excited right away, it's the female's first clutch and often times first clutches don't make it in many lizards. We'll do our best though!
