I'm going to have to take that bet Steve...that is definitely not a northern. My best bet is still that it is an indo, or possibly a merauke or IJ Hybrid. Either way I'm going to have to say that it is not of australlian origin.
So you'd bet your pants on it? If I wasn't so fond of my pants I'd bet mine against yours...

Taken from http://bluetongueskinks.net/blue.htm

INDONESIAN CHARACTERISTICS
• Solid black legs with minimal white flecking—both anterior and posterior legs
• Very thin horizontal stripes (usually no stripes that encase a separate color)
• Top of head is typically very smooth lacking deep crevices or large protuberating scales
• Tail (and even body) is often very mottled sometimes to the extent of being a solid color
• Scales on top of head often separated/outlined with dark lines (Merauke lacks this)
• Feet and toes are often larger/ruggedized compared to other species of Blue Tongue Skink — 1, 2
• NOTE: There are many color/pattern variances throughout Indonesia and neighboring islands and provinces

Sub-Adult Indos:

NORTHERN CHARACTERISTICS
• Clean anterior legs
• Vibrant orange to cantaloupe colored splotches on each side of belly
• Lacks dark temporal streaks—faded light streaks sometimes seen
• Adults are very large weight/mass wise

Baby Northern:

I just got the thumbnails working...and my computer, for that matter, lol.

If you are going solely on colors, that could lead ye astray. I've personally SEEN a northern with all the markings you described. The thing that I think makes it look northernish is the narrowness of the posterior of the skull.

As for colors, you'll note that Easterns can also posess the lines at the base of the skull on the back, running vertically down towards along the body axis towards the tail (temporal streaks, as they are called). The picture provided of a Northern for comparison is unfair; you took a lighter color pattern. I've seen TONS of darker northerns that have a very similar pattern to the one in question. Irian Jayans can posess the double "party pants" (lol I call them that), that is color patterns on both sets of limbs.

Ye could be on to something with that hybrid thing, could be an IJ/indo cross or even a northern/IJ as IJ's tend to cross with both readily, I'm told. Odds are in my favor though, Northerns are coming out of the woodwork in North America.

I demand a recount! Post pictures that don't appear about 1 square inch and blurry on my screen!! (ie. www.photobucket.com and link us to a pic that way)

It looks like an Indonesian to me as well. A cute little one at that too

Hmmm...its looking a little more like an IJ X Indo, the front leg with the banding on it like that makes me shy away from calling it 100% indo.
As for the temporal bands generally speaking they are more prominent in australlian species (especially the australlian species that are wild, they seem more faded in captive bred herps, but thats jut a personal observation) but my female indo has light banding. (My male has none)

My Irian Jaya has a very nice set of temporal streaks. Like I said, color can be misleading UNLESS it happens to be a stereotype.

Blue Tongue Skink is very weird, lots of phenotypic variation like a crestie but not as bad. Almost like a "race", if you will. In fact, I'd say unless you have a surrangular "bulge" (I think I have the right bone, my osteology is rusty since my paleo class) you can't tell indo from alot of Northerns, unless you check the red belly...which is a stereotype.

The point is, alot of them are hybrided right up. I say hybrid with indo cross as the sort of thing. Maybe some marauke in there, who knows. It's amazing what one can do with pictures BIGGER than 1 square inch...(lol the post in the polls thread).
