Re: Upgrade Coming - Downtime

i'm just thinking about the poor people with small screens. My screen is nice and big, so I don't care how wide it is, and the new module to the side, IS what was in the tabbed section.

Re: Upgrade Coming - Downtime

Hello,

There is an available 760 pixel design that is selectable. I will be altering some of that code to make it more adaptable, but for now...while I code, its 950 pixels. (Gives me lots of space to see what I am doing.)

Re: Upgrade Coming - Downtime

Ok, I have had to make a few alterations to what I previously had made. I have altered the optional style and have made it 760 pixels. This size will accomodate almost every browser.

I also had to remove the slide collapse effect I had added to the right column. It had a code conflict that wasn't worth debugging. I have since removed the column from the showthread page. I intend on creating some additional changes to the showthread page to ease navigation. For now, I need to keep it fairly empty as I need to code in the new nav for this page.

Is that why everything is so wide? I know with my Yahoo browser, if I have my side bar showing, the site runs off the edge of the screen. With the side bar closed it displays fine. This is a recent change.

Re: Upgrade Coming - Downtime

Yes. lol Its a fixed width setting. You can change the width in your usercp by going to the bottom of the "Edit HC Options" menu. There is a setting to set the preferred style for the site. That width is fixed at 760 pixels which accomodates almost all browsers.

You can also choose the 760 pixel version from the footer of any page.

Re: Upgrade Coming - Downtime

Much better on top there Rich, now set it up so they are next to each other instead of stacked. It will save more space.

Re: Upgrade Coming - Downtime

If you are reading this, you can already see that the buttons on the page are now different. Those buttons, with the exception of the Quote + button, contain no images at all. They are completely controlled via css and div elements. I did this to help speed up page loads. (Less images loading = faster page loads due to smaller file/packet size.)

I will be doing small changes like this across HC to help increase performance.

I want to take a moment to explain the "Quote +" button for those that do not understand it. That is a multi-quote button. When pressed, it changes colors letting you know that the post is on que to be quoted. You can then choose several more if you wish and those too will change colors. Once you have selected the posts you wish to reply to, simply click the normal "Post Reply" button. When the page loads, it will have quoted each of the selected messages, allowing you to reply to each one specifically.

I have been testing HC with several different browsers. (IE, Firefox, Opera, Netscape, Slimbrowser, and Flock.) It has been going and running fine in each of these browsers. (All of my browsers run the most current version.) I have not been able to test HC under a Mac system, so I would love to know if anything appears "off" with a Mac. Thanks.

Re: Upgrade Coming - Downtime

I will update you with the mac, but right now, nothing seems to be out of whack. I can test both in firefox and safari.
