do you guys have an irc chat? There are many people ive seen on other forums that like to use the chat instead of the forums

ThePHX, adding an IRC chat to answer questions would make the forums themselves useless. (Which is what this site is based upon.)

If we decide to add a chat in the future, it would be for chatting whereas the forums would be for answering questions.

It cant be for both? There's always different people who just love to sit on the forums all day and people who just love to sit on the irc chat all day. It wouldn't make the forums useless at all, it would help make them better.

That isn't true at all and I will explain why.

In a forum atmosphere the staff has the ability to monitor and respond to each thread that has been posted. In turn, other users also get to read the responses and learn from them if they happen to have the same question. In a chat atmosphere, anyone can answer any question and there may not be multiple responses to choose from unless there are multiple users answering the question. In that respect, pending who is actually in the chat, the answers given may not be accurate and as a result another users reptile is injured.

Within the forums, the users that post here that have experience with the species being asked about have the ability to share their knowledge. While that can also be true for a chat, the liklihood that those same users would be spending their time in the chat opposed to the forum is pretty slim.

We can help monitor forum posts, we can't and never will be able to continually monitor a chat for answering questions and that is why both will never exist for the same purpose on this site.

Just a heads up for everyone, I will be playing with a fixed width header today. Do not be alarmed if it looks a little "off". lol

Ok, I have added what will become our new "header". If you have javascript enabled (and everyone running a newer browser should), you will notice that it implements ajax in order for you to search the varying sections of HC from any page on the site.

Each link at the top of the search module will open a search field that caters to that section of HC.

Currently you can search:

• The Forums
• The Blogs
• The Galleries
• The Member List
• and even Google!

Hopefully this helps someone. lol (I like the feature. lol)

i think he meant like a chat room that multiple people would be in at once...

I personally think that a Chat room would be more confusing. If multiple people in the same chat room had different questions, it could get really difficult to follow... In addition to all the things Rich already brought up.

im not really sure what to tell you, because it works beautifully for reptilerooms. It doesnt confuse anyone because for the most part, the idlers there are all knowledgeable like the idlers here. I just really liked it because it is sooo easy for everyone just to talk and chat and converse(which are pretty much all the same word...LOL) I understand all your points noo worries, i just thought it was a sweet idea

I can see what he is getting at though. I like the idea of posting, since the information is there for others to read later, whereas if you discuss something in a chat, it is lost...
