My next Birthday

What type are you getting? In the spring I catch lead backs and red backed salamanders and they do great in a 5 gallon tank that stays moist all the time with something to hide under.

It depends a lot on what species you get. Some, like tiger and spotted salamanders are considered "mole salamanders". They prefer land to water. Other species prefer the water, some get large and others stay small, and some don't even have lungs and need special care. Where would the sally be coming from? Also keep in mind that there's a difference between a salamander and a newt.

Well in the garden center it is also a pet shop it didnt mention which type of salamander, i will ask a member of staff next time I am there. Which is probably the easyeist to look after?

How long do most salamanders live for?
