Yeah, he was having a "fat day"... He's out right now lookin for food, I only gave him one cricket cause the rest of them died before he came back up to claim them, bah! He's pretty chubby, so I don't think it will hurt him...

Nice sally! An eastern tiger to be exact (Ambystoma tigrinum tigrinum). I have a blotched tiger salamander myself (Ambystoma tigrinum melanostictum). I've had him for at least 13-15 years, and caught him as a sub-adult, so be prepared to have yours a while

Here are some pics I took of various species so you can try and sex yours:

male tiger salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum melanostictum)

male Japanese fire-bellied newt (Cynops pyrrhogaster)

female rough-skinned newt (Taricha granulosa)

Sorry for the blurry pic. Notice the swollen cloacas of the males and the relatively smaller cloaca of the female.

Just for good measure, here's a picture of my sally as well, Tiger (very original name, I know ). He's a bit large.

Hmm.. is it old enough to tell? Cause I haven't noticed swolleness.. Does that make Ginui a... she??? I'm pretty sure he/she/it isn't even a year old yet. I got it last spring break, and they had only had them there for about a month or two, and when they got them, they hadn't morphed yet, so I'm assuming pretty young... I dunno, maybe around 7 months or so? I'm horrible with dates and keeping track of things... Or is more of a, once it's morphed you can tell type of deal??

I was told it was a Texas barred tiger salamander.... Is that the same as an eastern? Or different? I keep seeing different classifications for these too, like they changed it for some reason... I don't know.
