A Couple of General Questions.

Hey everyone first post here!

About 3 weeks ago I picked up my first ever geckos , two Crested Geckos , one is a orange flame w/ partial pin (Lex Luthor) and the other is a orange tiger (Raja) with some dalmatian spots.

Anyways to my questions!

#1 My tiger does not seem to be eating, i have 2 seperate dishes for them and i use Repashy CGD. I also cricket feed about 2-3 times a week, i cricket feed outside of the terrarium, and my partial pin eats the crickets like its his job.. how ever my tiger doesnt eat anything.. he gaining weight at a lesser rate. Both are from the same breeder. Yes they live in the same terrarium.

#2 I have a what they seem to call "Natural Terrarium", only problem is i am very confused as to what substrate i should be using, for a natural look.

#3 this is my first venture into herp, and i really want to make it a hobby, but i want to do what is right , not what is the easiest or cheapest. I want my little bros to be comfy.

Yeah i read the care sheet after, i posted .. however tho a discussion would be nice.. get to know some fellow crestie owners.. thank you very much for you reply. I am also aware of paper towel substrate .. but im trying to do a natural terrarium.

Hey there and welcome to herpcenter! It is not a bad idea to offer alternative fruits to see if they have a better feeding response. I understand that some respond extremely well to banana or mango. I have to be pretty insistent on feeding one of my Crestie's crickets in order to get them to eat. Are you keeping all three together? Are they babies/juveniles/adults? What size tank are you keeping them in (Dimensions if possible). Also if you know the temps you are keeping them at and how you are measuring them. BarelyBreathing is a good person to talk to as she is pretty knowledgeable on crested gecko's and has had some unique experiences with them. I'm sure she could enlighten you on some things you would not find elsewhere (I suspect she'll find this thread on her own at some point). To respond to your pictures question, YES. Everyone here loves pictures and will immediately bring attention to your thread. I'm excited to see pic's when you can .

This guy we just took home on the weekend from our local reptile expo, i think he is a Flame with some real nice dalmatian clusters, his name is Chocobo. IMG_0140.jpg

First of all yes i know! my gecko photography needs some work :P.

Ok to answer some of the questions.

Chocobo is house sepratefly from the other 2. Raja and Lex are housed together as i got them from the same breeder on the same day and they were housed together, at the breeders. I am assuming they around 2-3 months, i have had Raja and Lex for 3 weeks. Chocobo we got on the weekend however he is already quite larger, and im assuming based on his size around 4-5 months old. Raja and Lex are house is a terrarium that is not entirely ideal for them, acutally i have a picture. IMG_0119.jpg it used to house my girlfriends brothers leopard gecko. They are both relativly small, what worries me is my pinstripe (Lex) is younger than (Raja) my tiger, yet hes bigger than him, has a larger eating response and eat crickets when ever i tempt him. I measure my temps with a laser thermometer, and my Humidty with a electronic Hygro. I mist in the morning and at night , whilst letting the substrate dry during they day. I use a reptiglo 5.0, because there is next to no sun in the room, it is on a 12/12 timer, im from montreal, canada. The temp in the varies around 68-76 at night and day for the latter. i have tried all the fruit you have mentioned and i just cant seem to get a eating response out of Raja, however.. there is poop in the cage more poop than i think just Lex could do.. i have set up 2 seperate feeding dishes. as for chocobo, he pigged out on crickets the day we got him.

Anyways sorry for the rant i am just worried, my breeder (Bogecko) said that, i may need to seprate them, because there is some dominance going on, i was looking for some input from a knowledgeable community. I am not one of those lazy buy and forget types.. I care for my animals between me and my girlfriend, 3 Crested Geckos, 2 dogs, 1 cat, 2 birds, 1 ball python, 1 feret and 1 angry tokay named bellatrix lestrange. So i want the best possible enviroment for my little guys, so one day they can make beautiful gecko babies.

Edit: I Tub feed crickets, to avoid cricket madness in my house, that terraium picture is older and i now use Eco earth.

Thanks for the pictures! I never get tired of seeing crested gecko's. It may be a good idea to try and separate them then especially if dominance issues are recurring. I'm glad you use a infrared gun, and everything seems adequate. Crestie's can have pretty unique characteristics and what works for one person may not be the same for another. My Crested gecko's are pooping machines, so it's hard to say if it may be one, or both of yours contributing. My girlfriend has a couple Tokay's of her own named Ein and Ester, and they are quite the little devils themselves.

i did ALOT of reading before i even got into owning them, however just reading cant prepare you for everything.
