Fighting...

Well I think both my Crested Geckos are male because I noticed from time to time one will start to chase the other and stop then the one being chased would start to chase the chaser. LOL! Confusing?? Anyway I don't see any signs that they are male. They both look female to me. Maybe the enclosure is too small. I'm getting a bigger one in two weeks anyway but I'm not sure whats going on with them.

Re: Fighting...

12x18x12 thats when they where no more than 2 inches long now they're like 4 to 5 so I'm thinking I should get some thing like 24x18x24 if not bigger...

Re: Fighting...

It seems that someone else here had the same thing happen. I think they do seem to "play" in a way. I maybe wrong with that thought, but if you want to. You could get them their each exoterra. Judging from the sizes thats what they are in now. If you get them their own, the 18x18x18 would work for each of them.

Re: Fighting...

LOL yea thats what I keep them in... and yes it almost looks more like theyre playing tag but they nip and I know its not play for them...the weird thing is they will lay next each when sleeping during the day and they seem to get along most of the time... they only chase once in a blue moon... not sure what it means...heh...

Re: Fighting...

I keep pitching the 37 gallon fish tank. Its the same foot print as a 29 but taller. a 12 x 18 x 12 is only 11 gallons. I would think that is too small for 2 Crested Geckos.

Re: Fighting...

Now it is, but at the time they were sooo small when I got them. Now they're bigger. Like I said I'm getting a bigger tank this week at an expo but I wanted to know if anyone else had any ideas on the behavior heh...

Re: Fighting...

I'd take a wild guess that its a "get away from my space" thing. Just because they get along one minute doesn't mean they will all the time.

Re: Fighting...

I personally would go bigger than the 24x18x24. I have one in a 25gal and at times that almost seems to small for him. If you really want to keep them together, go for the 37. But, be prepared that if they turn out to be boys you will want to separate them...

Re: Fighting...

With them sleeping next to each other during the day may not be love at all(even though we all, including me, would like to think that) but them wanting the same spot, competing for space.

Although these aren't social animals in the wild I've come to think that if they grew up together they are buds. When I got my two Crested Geckos they had been tank mates since the start of time. I split them up into different tanks just incase nubs was a female. For the first week or so of that they would be right next to each other between the glass. I'm not an expert but it did seem like they missed each others company.

I've heard about people saying you can keep two males in the same enclosure if they were brought up together before a mature age. They will establish a hierarchy at a young age. If they're chasing each other down then I would just keep a very close watch on them if you don't want to split them up.
