Newbie Tricking Out a Crestie Cage - Help?

Hi guys - first off, I'm glad to have found a site with so much info and helpful people on it. So hopefully you can answer my questions which are -

1. I found a hexagonal tank for $20 on craigslist. It's huge - probably around 30 gallons, maybe more. I'm not sure since I don't have the exact measurements. It's taller than it is wide. Would this kind of tank be appropriate for keeping crested geckos (a pair)? I know they like height, but wasn't sure if the tank just had to be rectangular.

2. It doesn't come with a screen top. Is there a place that sells hex tops? If necessary, I can make it myself, but I'm not so handy - any tips?

Thanks in advance (and apologies in advance if I newbied it up and misplaced the topic!)

Re: Newbie Tricking Out a Crestie Cage - Help?

Hey there! This is the right place for the thread to get your questions answered, but be sure to introduce yourself in the intro area as well!

The hex tank sounds like it would be fine. I think you can find a hex top at an aquarium supply store. It doesn't NEED to be all screen... Crested Geckos like a fair amount of humidity and having a solid or mostly solid top would help with that. If you don't find one you like it shouldn't be to difficult to make one.

You might try calling this place to see what could be worked out... http://www.glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewCat&lCatID=65

Hi and welcome to Herp Center. The hex would be a great tank for Crested Geckos with lots of nice hiding spots and plants.

Re: Newbie Tricking Out a Crestie Cage - Help?

Thanks, guys. I emailed the glasscages folk since it's the weekend, so hopefully I will get a reply soon. If nothing else, I found a lid at Pet Supermarket that's a little expensive, but I saved a lot on the tank...and I'm getting paid soon, haha. I will try to post pics once I get the whole thing set up, because I'd love suggestions to make the habitat just perfect.

Now, off to the intro forum!

Welcome! You could keep a trio in there if you wanted to. They have to be all female or a male and females. I wouldn't suggest the male and females though since the male can over breed the females unless you want to breed and your prepared to separte the male from the females at times. Malse usualy aren't to aggressive but it's better not to keep them togeather.
