Crested Gecko Check List

So I'm hoping to get a pair, or trio of Crested geckos later this month. Here's what I have and what I know I need. Please make any suggestions or recomendations.
Have: 30 gal tank
pothos plant
newspaper and paper towel for substrate initially
water dish
reptimister
reptisun 2.0 light
plastic vine plants

Need: screen lid
drift wood for climbing
crested gecko food

About feeding, of course as with most animals you can check 3 different resources and get 3 different answers. Should the bulk of the diet be the crested gecko food, crickets or baby food? I'm a little confused about the importance of each.

Is a 30g big enough for a pair or even a trio of Crested Geckos? It's 30LX12WX18H.

I think that's all my questions for now.

Please feel free to advise me on supplies, diet etc.

Re: Crested Gecko Check List

As for food...crested gecko diet by T-rex products is the best out!
And the lighting...other than for plants, special lighting is not needed.

A 30 gallon should be ok...make it a vertically high though!
good luck...great choice for a new herp...and glad to see someone preparing before they get their critters ! well done!

Re: Crested Gecko Check List

Thanks, Could I keep 3 in a 30g? Or should I keep it at two?

I learned the hard way with my hermit crabs. Although I though I prepared myself, I didn't know nearly enough about them when I started. Don't want to make the same mistake again.

A vertical 30 gallon with enough hiding spots should be fine, but I would suggest 2 for now. Also if you keep three, make sure there is only one male. This could be hard as I guess you are buying hatchlings?

Re: Crested Gecko Check List

I would also stay away from the baby food. If you use T-rex or the Repashy diet (both the same) it provides everything your gecko needs. Crickets can be used as occasional treats, mine will only eat a few a week...

Here are some links to topics from when I was doing research prior to getting mine.

You also might have more luck keeping the humidity up, using ecoearth rather than paper towels or newspapers...

Re: Crested Gecko Check List

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out. yes, I was planning to use EE a little later on when they are a little older.

I am planning to get hatchlings and not sure what I'll do if I end up with two males. Anthony Caponetto has a "grab bag" special of 3 hatchlings for $200. That's what I was looking at. If I were to have the misfortune of 2 or more males I can either set up my extra 10 gallon or try to find them a new home. I'm thinking if I get the three to start that I may set up the 10 g temporarily until I know what sex they are anyway. Not sure what hubby will say about that...... But if I tell him that some of these geckos cost a couple hundred dollars each he may be okay.

Re: Crested Gecko Check List

Depending on how small of hatchings you are talking about the 10 gal might be better for them anyways. Sometimes the little ones get lost in the "big" tanks...

Re: Crested Gecko Check List

Yeah depending on the size you can keep them in a 10 gallon. I agree the CGD is the best out there. You can get 1 part or a 2 part system. The 2 part system has different flavors. Since I just have one. I mix enough to last me a month, freeze it and put the rest of the powder in the fridge. Remember to do that. Always store the left over powder in the fridge.

Re: Crested Gecko Check List

The 30 gallon is great for three, you could get more in there if you wanted to.
Depending if they're babies like my two Crested Geckos you can feed them crestedgeckodiet(CGD) everyday and crixs every 3 days. Stay way from baby food unless thats what they have been fed before you got them. In that case you would have to slowly switch them over from baby food to the CGD.

No, no, no. you should NOT put more than 3 in a 30 gal tank. That would just be asking for trouble.
