Re: Crested Gecko Check List

Thanks for all the help

I'm getting excited now that I'm actually making plans to get them. I go on vacation next Sat and it will be hard to wait until I get back. Maybe I can have everything ready and order them before I leave, to be delivered when I get back.

I don't think I would put more than three anyway. I read somewhere that 20g would be fine for a pair, so I thought maybe 30 would be okay for 3. It's what I already have anyway. I have that and 2 10g's that are unoccupied at the moment. Maybe I'll set up the 2 10's for now. Have thoughts about breeding in the future but we'll take it one step at a time!

Re: Crested Gecko Check List

For 3 hatchlings you should be fine with the one 10 gal until they are about 6 weeks old, then I would start thinking about moving them to the 30...

Re: Crested Gecko Check List

Thanks I'll do that.

Can be sexed at 4-6 months? At what age is it important to keep males separate? Fingers are crossed for 2 females.

Re: Crested Gecko Check List

Actually when I got Skif at about 4-6 weeks I could tell he was a he already. That young it's usually easier to tell if they are boys than if they are girls though...

well I would seperate as soon as you can tell the sex...it is early but unless you want lost tails (which dont regen like other geckos..but is natural by the way) seperate earlier rather than later.

depending if theyre babies like my two crestie you can feed them crestedgeckodiet(CGD) everyday and crixs every 3 days, stay way from babyfood unless thats what they have been fed before you got them, in that case you would have to slowly switch them over from babyfood to the CGD...

I have been told other wise on the Repasy forum. Switch them over cold turkey to the CGD. I had to do it with my guys and it worked out. You can keep a crestie on the Repasy CGD for their whole life and not run into a problem.

I would say ditch the live plants and go with fake ones on paper towels. I used to keep my Crested Geckos on soil but it just caused to many problems. Mold grew very fast, it was messy, yadda yadda yadda. I'm not saying it's bad it just turned out to be a hastle for me =] It is very pleasing to the human eye though ;]

If you were going to get two or three babies keep them all in seperate tanks before you know their sex. You could have males fighting or males trying to breed females and neither is good. Once you know their sex you can decide what to do then.

Re: Crested Gecko Check List

Thanks again for everyone's help. Maybe I'll start with the fake. I would like to have a natural home for them if possible. My hermies have a 70g tank with built in fresh water pool and salt water pool with live plants and even the appropriate bugs to take care of the poop and prevent mold.

I'm guessing if I were to put bugs in with a gecko they would get eaten?
For hermies we expand the EE with salt water, but again I'm guessing that this is not appropriate for geckos. the salt helps to prevent mold growth as the hermie require quite a bit of humidity.

Thanks again for everyones help.

I just want add that I'm really enjoying this forum. Everyone is friendly and helpful.
Thanks!

I haven't had any problems using the EE with my tank. I just spot clean and stir the soil that doesn't have anything planted. I am actually in the process of trying to get moss to cover the entire ground... The only problem I had with mold was with a log that I had made into a hide, so I ditched that and am now in the process of making a "rock" hide out of GS... Just don't keep the tank overly moist.

Also if you keep the live plants in pots, you can still have them and the paper towels and they will help you keep the humidity up...
