Still Skittish

I've had my crestie, Dragon for maybe 5 months now, and though I've continually tried to handle him, he won't let me. any time I put my hand in the cage or near him, he just scurries away, and any time I pick him up he just obviously doesn't like it. Is there any way I can tame him or get him to at least allow me to handle him?

I tamed my leopard geckos by just placing my hand in there tank and just leaving it there for a few minutes. if you do this everyday soon you should notice him getting a bit curious and eventually when he realizes you don't want to hurt him he should climb aboard!

Tip I got from Veronica....

The rest of what he doesn't eat from the syringe goes into a small dish and removed the next day. It's a great way to get him used to being held. He's only 26 g. right now so he has a little way to grow, but he does enjoy being held once he's been removed from the tank. The diet has a huge part to play in that for sure.
it seems to work for m Skif. He doesn't mind me holding him, occasionally he's not interested in being picked up but once I'm holding him he doesn't want to go back in...

Re: Still Skittish

Well cresteds are just like people. Most are nice and easy going but there are some that just dont like being social lol. I used to hand feed my Crested Geckos when they were small to train them to eat the mix so I dont have to use crickets always works
They are adults now. They run around if I touch them in the cage but once in your hands its simple I have alot of herps! Back in the day I had to hand feed 15 Crested Geckos a night! lol, Light bill is 345$ a month lol
But your crestie will grow on you if you keep being social good luck

I'm really glad it's worked for you!! It's been successful with several crestie keepers I've mentioned it to.

The "stuff" I use is the Repashy CGD 2-phase. The T-Rex is already combined, but the same stuff as the Repashy 1-stage and will work just as well....
