As some of you know I'm in the process of setting up a tank for a Crested Gecko. In my research I have read that the crested geckos should eat a special diet. Yesterday when I was out getting supplies I searched for the Crested Gecko Diet and was unable to find it anywhere, so I started searching online. One of the first things I came up with was this Nature Zone Gecko Bites
Now everything I have read so far is that the gecko diet should be an almost paste. Same constancy as baby food. But these appear to be more solid. Anyone know anything about these?

Gecko Food: Bug Company Reptile-Life Crested Gecko Food
Also just found this one but it is also not a soft food...

oh and if I get a special Crested Gecko diet do I still need to supplement with calcium or would that already be included?

Lol you guys are gonna think I'm crazy for all these back to back posts.... But I just wanna go the right route.
So I also just found this stuff at PetCo's website.
T-Rex Sandfire Super Food Crested Gecko Diet
It looks like its the stuff everyone has been suggesting. Are any of these better than others? any really bad and I should stay away from?

Re: Diet Research

The T-Rex diet is an excellent choice. It's the exact same stuff as the Repashy diet who designed the original CGD (Crested Gecko Diet). I use the Repashy brand 2-stage diet for my little guy, but it's only because I intended to use other flavors. There are several flavors in the 1-stage Repashy diet where it's already all mixed together. All you do is add water. I use the 2-stage that allows for choices of even more flavors. There's the base diet which is always used...and then you can add a different flavor to the base or even mix and match different blends. So far I've tried passion fruit and banana. He hates banana...even mixed with the passion fruit, which he LOVES!

It's also a GREAT way to spend some one-on-one time with your Rhac. I fill a 1cc syringe with the stuff and after he calms down a minute by flinging himself around on my person...I can get him to lick the end of the syringe as I depress the plunger. The rest of what he doesn't eat from the syringe goes into a small dish and removed the next day. It's a great way to get him used to being held. He's only 26 g. right now so he has a little way to grow, but he does enjoy being held once he's been removed from the tank. The diet has a huge part to play in that for sure.

The T-Rex diet will work the very same way. Both diets have all the ingredients, calcium and vitamins already in it. I don't even feed him insects anymore except for the occasional calcium dusted cricket.

Re: Diet Research

Another agreement with Prismwolf. We used the CGD for our cresteds, they would not even eat crickets, as the breeder only fed CGD. You can vary it with different babyfoods and all sorts of things. They love it.

You may want to rethink this baby food notion after reading this..:

Re: Diet Research

Ok, I've been using the CGD every night. I have been doing like Veronica said and taking him out to start feeding with an eye dropper. He seems to have learned that the food is coming out of the end of it and will lick it. I have been able to get about 3/4 of a cc in him each time. My question is how much should he be eating? Is 3/4 of a cc enough? because it does not seem like he is eating at all out of the dish I leave in there at night. He has been defecating and has already shed once. It came off cleanly as well... Also since he isn't eating anything out of the bowl, would it be ok for me to just feed him what he will eat out of the syringe and then refrigerate the uneaten portion to use the next day instead of leaving it in the tank to dry out? I just REALLY hate so much waste. I'm only making about 1/2 a tsp a night which makes 1 1/2 of food total with the water.

Re: Diet Research

Very good!! They get very used to being fed that way, but I don't want Harley to get used to that as his only way to be fed, so I don't always fill him up. Some animals become dependent on hand feedings and will sometimes refuse to eat any other way. Once the habit is there it's hard to break. I leave some in a dish...often it gets left alone, but there are times when the food has been eaten from it, too. I'm like you...I make about 3 tsp. at a time of mixture. Some goes to waste.

This stuff can last up to two weeks, so if you make up enough to last that long and put it in a miniature ketchup-type container then you can suck up what you might use in the eye dropper and put the rest in the dish...or for a night instead of dropper-feeding...just squeeze a little into the dish...
