Re: I'm Treating Myself...
I think after the day I had Friday that I really just finally said that I want a non-furry and I'm getting it! I actually thought it out and remembered all the reasons we decided we needed to give up the frogs and the dragons, and found something I would be interested in that wouldn't cause the same, space, time, and frequent trips to the pet store, issues.
![]() Sorry about that, honestly didn't know they were called Rhacodactylus. I thought it was weird with how many people keep Crested Geckos that we didn't have a topic for them... Now I know! ![]() And thanks to both you and Rich for getting the caresheet updated.

Re: I'm Treating Myself...
oh and talk about will power. I think I would have come home with one yesterday, if it hadn't been for the shape he was in. I was at the Aquarium Depot in Randalstown, and they had 2. The first one just really didn't seem to connect with me, but the second one (which they were listing as a "bobtail") was just a sweetheart. I think I held him for about 10 minutes and when it came time to put him back in the tank he really didn't want to go back in. I decided not to get him because in addition to him already having lost his tail he was REALLY skinny. The girl that worked there said that they were working on putting weight on him but that he didn't eat all that great. She said because he wasn't eating much they had started "dusting the heck" out of his food every time he eats. Supposedly once they started doing that he started eating a little better, but I don't know if she said that because I had said that I didn't think I should get him if he is underweight and not eating... He was also noticeably more lethargic than the other one was. At first I thought he was just more laid back, but after noticing the weight and hearing about his poor appetite I had to wonder.

Re: I'm Treating Myself...
I tell you shell, the guy I got my red eyes from does his own breeding and all his animals look great. He's at the Havre DeGrace show every month. You could also use it as an excuse to visit Greenie

Re: I'm Treating Myself...
lol Yeah I think my friend Mala and I are gonna be up there for the show on the 12th. That will give the tank plenty of time to cure before I add anyone in there.

Re: I'm Treating Myself...
I"m taking my friend Steve up there as well. He really wants a herp, but he can't figure out what he really wants. He thinks he has it narrowed down to a RES or some sort of snake, and figures the best way to make up his mind is to see them in person. He has a 75 gallon tank given to him from a friend, he's just not sure what he wants to put in it.

Re: I'm Treating Myself...
Ok so I started paying attention to the temps in the tank even though its not totally finished. With the original lamp I had on there Temps on the hot side were getting as high as 87 (this was at the top directly below the lamp). So I decided to try a different bulb. I tried a 15w Halogen which was supposed to be equivalent to a 60w, and temps never really got above 73. So I went out and got a new fixture that I can attach to the side of the cabinet that the tank sits in and has I think a 40w bulb in it. It was on for about an hour prior to me moving everything so I could get some more work done on the background tonight. It was reading 77-78 on top under the lamp and about 73 on the bottom of the other side. My humidity is still at 40% but I haven't added the soil and haven't been watering the plants to much yet.... Does it sound like I'm on the right track?

Re: I'm Treating Myself...
sounds like you are about right. I control 100% of my tanks heat with different bulbs. I know once summer hits, i'm going to need a florescent tube cause the house gets plenty warm.
I would think dirt and plants would help insulate it as well. Plus the coco-husk on the wall.
