No visible markings at all.

...as miraculously as he got sick, just 2 nights ago, all bleeding and pussing stopped. He began eating like normal, as normal as he can with a dried tongue (nooooo it may need to be amputated). He's active, though a smidge grumpy, and the blood pooling around the back of his head is clearing nicely. He's tired but not weak. He's got full use of every affect body part I can see and he's got his normal appetite back. I bet there is some permanent neurological or muscular damage, but I can assess the extent of that somewhat when he's done recovering.

At least we can rule out for sure, as if we didn't already, something like Metabolic Bone Disease.

Other options for this weirdness may be bacterial or viral, but this gecko comes in contact with all our other Crested Geckos fairly often as we let them interact with each other when they are out playing. So it would have to be non contagious, but how would he get it? Maybe a toxin then, but his cage is done up the same as all the other Crested Geckos, nothing different to report. It's a real mystery, I honestly thought with the amount of blood he lost and continued to lose that night that he was for sure not going to make it. Amazing resiliance in this species, eh?

That is one amazing story and I am so very glad to read that he is recovering

It does seem to sound like a spider bite was the problem and I venture to say that quite a few unexplained lizard deaths are caused by this

I do have a question tho-do they eat spiders in the wild and does that have an adverse effect on them??
I guess what I am also asking is would he have had the same problem if he had eaten one since there were no visible bite marks on him?

He died actually. Just ran out of steam. It's very common for lizards to improve a bit before dying.

From what I've read most lizards avoid spiders and other things like this. Mostly because spiders have hairs that irritate them. Ants are the same. Most lizards avoid beetles too. Actually, some lizards eat ONLY ants and a few spiders. Ever heard of Thorny devils or horney toads?

Re: Painful death: EVERYONE SHOULD READ

I'm so sorry to read of your loss

It seems that just when we think that we have "all the bases covered" with proper care that something like this comes along

RIP Apollo
