Edible Plants List

Edible - Safe Plants For Use Within Reptile Enclosures

The 2 edible plants lists below contain the same plants. The first list is in alphabetical order by taxonomic name. The second list is in alphabetical order by the same plants common name(s). This was done to help make it easier for people to locate plants they may be researching. The common names list is not to be used as a means to decide if a plant is safe to use. Many plants, even toxic plants, share some of the common names listed. You must research the taxonomic name for the species you want to use and compare that to our nomenclature list.

Individual plants may only contain certain edible parts. Research each plant listed independently to make sure that you know which parts are edible.
All searches should be done by the proper nomenclature for the species. The common name can not be trusted because common names are not official and vary based on localities. The list is just to be used as a quick reference. If the name is on the common names list, run a search for it and locate its taxonomic name and compare it to the taxonomic name list. This is the only way to ensure that the species are intending on using is actually safe.
