Actually there is a danger with these. There was a case where after removing the outside peice to observe the animals. It was replaced and without the owner knowing the gecko had its leg between the inside peice and the glass resulting in the animal getting its leg broken.

I can testify to that one .....my teenage daughter had some friends over and they removed the outside peice to see the geckos, when they replaced it they caught one of my girls arms. It wasn't discovered until the next day, when I went to feed them and she wouldn't come out.
Her arm had to be amputated at the shoulder. She's recovered wonderfully, but has to be house alone now because the others attacked her when I tried to reintroduce her to her group after her recovery. Now the outer peice is permanantly fixed to the tank

yeah I've seen those heat rocks before, but I'm still against them, my ig is doing fine without them I don't want to add a risk that can be prevented.

that's horrible herpmom, sorry that happened to your gecko, you said they had to amputate at the shoulder but in the pic his/her arm is thin. Do geckos regenerate arms and legs? I have an ig so I'm not familiar with any info on geckos.

To tell you the truth after I made that first post I had thought of that happening and it made me cringe. I am going to take it back I have only had it for a few days I thought they were so cool but now dont really think so.
I can use the money for a rheostat or thermostat for the Under Tank Heater. I know they have rheostats but not sure bout thermostats at petsmart.

Iggyman they do not regenerate arms. I beleive that photo was shot prior to the amputation to show the injury.
Toadie I would go with a thermostat. Rheostats only turn the heat up or down. If the temperature of the room changes you have to go back in and fiddle with it to get the right temp again. With a thermostat you set it and forget about it. You can find thermostats online a lot cheaper than at petsmart.

Yes I know I can find one online but I dont have a credit card and would like it now rather than later. And it would probably end up costing more due to shipping.

HerpMom she is very pretty, Merlin in regards to the thermostat, i will probably get one in the future but for now I got the rheostat. i would have to adjust the thermostat anyhow for day night differences. My house is pretty well insulated so the temp stays pretty constant.
