Hey. has anyone ever heard of a product called iguana bites it says specially formulated color and flavour to stimulate hunger. and has anyone heard of a spray that makes your herp's colors brighter? i saw these products at the petstore in town. i picked up the iguana bites but not the spray. i figure that if the iguana's skin isn't bright enough already somethings wrong or thats what the iguana is supposed to look like. the iguana bites are soft and ready to eat so I tried a couple and my ig loves them. when I went in there I saw an iguana with a heat rock in his enclosure and he was on it. i asked them if he was always on it and they said yes. i told them to remove it but they are too stubborn and won't. i don't know what else I can do. they also don't have any UVB lights over any of their herps. i am thinking of trying to get a job there just so I can correct them on how to take care of these herps properly. sorry it just made me mad to see them not taking good care of thier herps and not listening to advice.

The spray is nonsense. Just another way for someone to try to get in your pocket.
My iguana wouldn't touch the bites.
Your best bet is to stick with a good fresh leafy green diet and save the "candy" for an occassional treat.

Don't the iguana bites have egg in them? I remember looking at them once as a treat but they had some sort of protein that I didn't want Diz having. Look at the ingredients and make sure everything is iguana friendly and remember they are only a treat, there is no substitute for healthy diet.

I agree about both items...

The iguana bites would be alright on an occasional basis as treats, but you're always better off to feed fresh food (greens, winter squash, fruit).

As for making changes: you must exercise patience and become a regular customer. Take time to hang out in the reptile department and get to know the staff. As they become comfortable with you and your knowledge level, they'll begin to trust your judgement. I was able to do this with a local reptile specialty store (the herp "manager" told me that pyramidding was normal for sulcatas, but with patient interaction he came to realize that it's not); however, with another local petstore, month after month I told them that the hatchling iguanas were in danger of burns because of how they had the lighting set up. I even asked to hold one of the babies and pointed out the burns on the iglet. To this day, they have not changed the lighting situation.

Bottom line... never lose your cool or you will lose all credibility and respect. And your chances of helping make positive changes will evaporate.

thanks. i was using the iguana bites as part of his food but he wasn't eating very much of his food and one of his legs went brown. i took away the iguana bites and switched back to tearing his leafs up by hand, because I used a food chopper and he didn't like it that way. the color in his leg has come back now so I won't be using those iguana bites anymore. i dunno if my ig have a weird reaction to it or what happened but as soon as I changed his food he was back to normal and a lot more active. I didn't think the spray was a good idea either I was just curious.

as for the pet store deal. i know all the staff there and I am friends with one of the girls who works there. they have told the manager and he still refuses to take the heat rocks away from the igs and to put proper lighting on them. so I will stillbe going there and checking on the animals every now and then and telling them what I think. but we will see how it goes.
