Thanks for the compliments.

Joe, I definately recommend them! I don't think Rach will mind, plus she's getting some crested geckos soon . You can blame me for that.

Adam, I think a nice peice of driftwood would make an awesome addition to your tank.

Merlin, I actually have some in the works for my cresty hatchlings, it works out good because I can almost assure they'll be housed properly. But I still need to work out some details and design flaws, but it's something I've been considering.

Fuse, I think your referring to the Selaginella Unicata, I believe its a close relative of the fern, if you have the same selainella they like it wet, the substrate should be constantly moist. And what your seeing is silicone that I used to cover up the false bottom, I have water in the small pool, there was just no water because I had just drained it before I took the pics. I really don't have that much substrate, there is a layer of LECA and then maybe a few millimeters of substrate.

LOL jacky I know the ones your talking about, I used to see them all the time, before I was into darts, or even herps for that matter, and now I really want one and can't find them anywhere. Does the blue and black one have the same patterns as the ones above?

If anyone is interested the rest of the photos I have can be found here http://photobucket.com/albums/v110/c...tes%20Auratus/

Cody,my blue and black rubber frog has got black legs, feet and underside with a bluebelt around his belly. The whole back is blue with black spots.
The green one looks pretty much like your pics!

Have you looked at a toy store or your nearest zoo? If you can't find them and you are really desperate for them,I could look at the shop when I go to the zoo next time and send them to you.
Tell me if this is a good or bad idea! I know how it is if you want something and can't find it!
But I don't know if they still got them!

Jacky does the blue and black one look anything like this? If so its a D. azureus, actually it has recently been reclassified as a morph of D. tinctorus, but we won't get into that . I borrowed this pic from here: members.aol.com/_ht_a/ caplants/CP-Azureus.gif .

Thanks for the offer but thats ok. I like having an excuse to go to the zoo anyways.

Thanks! I've actually decided not to do anything else to the tank, aside from maitanence. The substrate I have uses sphangum and its coming back to life quite nicely but I like the contrast of the brown to all the green in the tank. The selaginella is growing in nicely and once that has filled in it should be set. However, I am finishing up my 20 vert tonight, I think Ill try what we talked about on that one.

What size setup are you doing and what do you want in it (waterfall, pond)?

hey guys, mi am working on a design for a tank for some mantellas.
do they like water area???

i try to look for designs of vivariums for them but most turn out to be for darts, any recommendations?

btw is a 2 feet tank suitable for housing 2 different species? a pair each?
my friend seems interested but I think its not good cause they are terroritorail to some extend right?

A water area isn't necessary as long as the humidity can be maintaned. The setups are similar to darts just a little cooler. I wouldn't recommend mixing two species, there aren't really advantages and hybridization is a possibility. All the species except one (leavagiata) are ground dwellers. Since all mantellas are from madagascar you can use plants from madagascar to get a nice theme. I haven't kept mantellas so I don't know how territorial they are but mixing of species generally isn't a good idea.
