frog tank remodled
Hey ya'll, here are some pictures of what I spent the afternoon working on. I did what you suggested cody, and used to cork bark to make a ledge and put som pothos cuttings on top of the ledge and they will grow over the bark and fill it in after a few weeks. Also, i got some new plants and got rid of the bromeliads which were starting to look really bad and I was having a really hard time trying to find strong enough lights. I just said "the heck with it" and threw them away. I replaced them with a Dracaena and a schefflera. I also cut a bit of what I think is some sort of philodendron-like plant that my father (green thumb) said is not poisonous. He also helped me pick out the new ones. I chose them mainly because they like medium light which is what I can provide with the aquarium bulb that is on the tank now. Anyways, here are some pictures, i hope ya'll like the new setup. Don't worry if it looks a little bare, I am planning for the pothos to fill in most of the gaps soon enough.

Schefflera

Dracaena

Adam, very nice! I like the ledge it looks good and adds some depth to the tank. I think a rock or peice of driftwood would pull it all together. I would also do some leaf litter in the tank-magnolia leaves or oak leaves.

well I am looking for some large smooth stones and the leaf litter sounds like an awesome idea. How do you sterilize them? Soak them in a vinegar solution of 1 parts vinegar to like 3 parts water?
One other question. I really really want to get another species to put in the tank. It's a 20 gal long and there are 3 leucomelas in it. I am thinking about a single azureus auratus or tinctornicus (that how u spell it?) to put as an additional inhabitant. I have also heard about getting an arboreal frog since the terrestrial and arboreal frogs won't have much contact and will be less stressful. Any ideas?

The leaf litter can just be washed off then quarintined if your still worried about it. You could probably also use a heavily diluted bleach solution but make sure to wash it thoroughly. Truthfully I don't wash it or bake it, I just make sure to get it from a very clean area, deep deep in the wood.
The mixing idea is heavily frowned upon, dart frog enthusiasts get extremely testy when the idea is even brought up. There's alot of problems with mixing, too many to list. One problem is competition, one good size tinc could starve your other inhabitants. The biggest problem is hybridization, everyone is trying relentlesly to preserve the blood lines. I wouldn't put even another leuc in a 20, I know they are small, but they need their space. Enjoy the ones you have for now, they'll keep you busy enough.

I like it, wish I could have llves in my cage...
That schefflera will be fun in a tank like that, I had a hard enough time keeping one small enough to fit in my room, they take off.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I really love that sphagnum moss that cody suggested. It's perfect for keeping humidity up. I just cleaned my white's tree frog viv and decided to put down a layer of moss as a substrate rather than the paper towel I was using. I soaked by pouring water through the screen top and it made a nice rain effect. It's very nice looking and I think my white's is getting to like it too.
Thanks for all of the advice, i'll not be getting any more frogs for a while. After watching my frogs for a while after I made this post. I decided that watching the plants fill in this tank will be fun enough.
Thanks again,
