Re: Where Do I Start?
what is an easier frog perhaps that would possibly still have the same color effects as the darts. My wife loves frogs just thought maybe darts would be more colorful?

Re: Where Do I Start?
Tomato frogs are very pretty. Some get so red or very orange. Red eye tree frogs are also very colorful. White's tree frogs are a great beginner frog and have great personalities. There are also many pac-man frog morphs out there which are beautiful.

Re: Where Do I Start?
You can keep up to 3 tomatoes in a 55 gallon. The pacman is more of a solitary frog and will do just fine in a 10 gallon its whole life. Red eyes and Whites both like community, just not with each other. I have a tank with 3 red eyes, and then I also have a tank with 6 whites.
Another one to consider are firebelly toads. They like half land/half water setups and are always on the move and fun to watch. They also like community and you can fit about 8 in your 55 gallon.

Re: Where Do I Start?
Well, frogs aren't really something you play with, like a dog or a cat. You can take them out and hold them, and maybe let them climb around a little, but everything you handle, gets transferred to them through their skin. The more you handle, the more toxins they absorb. Frogs are very sensitive to any outside cleaners or chemicals.
I take my frogs out for feeding once every three days. I don't touch the Red Eye Tree Frog at all, they are far too skiddish and small. They are really a look but don't touch kind of animal. Whites Tree Frog are the most able to be handled of all. Sometimes I'll take my one frog Grace out, and she'll sit on top of my monitor while I work at night. Its warm up there. I also give them some out time in the house plants.

Here is a really good web site for many of your specific breed questions. It has lots of care sheets that might help you out.
