New Green and Black Pdf

I just got one last week. He's eating well [1/4" crickets]. I'm considering a 2nd. Will 2 in a well planted 20 gal viv be ok?

Re: New Green and Black Pdf

What is his scientific name? Is he a Dendrobates auratus? A 20g would be fine for two, possibly three if they are the smaller species. I'm not too knowledgeable of dart frogs but keeping two together would depend on their temperaments. I know dendroboard.com and dartdent.com are two GREAT PDF forums, if you're not on them all ready I would suggest you get on it. You would be able to get a lot more help there than here.

I would also like to see some pics of your viv =]

100% Dendrobates auratus, 1-4 in a 20 gal. if it's well planned. The rule is normally 5 gal per frog. Even though this species is more ground dwelling some broms and higher flats would be used often. If you don't already have a Dendrobate cage (with slanted glass floor and run off trench) I would look into modifying your cage (with glass or plexiglass) or getting one. They really make a difference when because of the amount of water used in misting by hand or with systems. Denroboards is a great forum though the people there can be a little on the hard to handle side.

Re: New Green and Black Pdf

Hes a costa rican auratus. You can house up to 4 in a 20. Its good he's eating crickets, but their staple diet is flightless fruit flies.

Will he be ok with a main diet of pin crickets? I dust with supplements once a week.

No. He'll need a variety of food items: flightless fruit flies, springtails, and certain worms and beetles are necessary too. Do you have any books on PDF care? You should invest in Poison Dart Frogs A complete guide to Dendrobatidae by Amanda & Greg Sihler.

Re: New Green and Black Pdf

I may try and find some small innocuous bugs for him but flightless [yeah right] fruitflys won't be one of them. Aren't springtails a house infester? What types of worms? How about Phoenix worms? No, I don't have any books, I've got the net.

Re: New Green and Black Pdf

If you grow your own flies (and are careful) they will STAY flightless. Springtails could be; they feed on decomposing wood. Yes, Phoenix worms... you'll want them in small or extra small.

Get the book! It's only about $10, and it's a great resource with ACCURATE information (something you don't always get online), and the folks that wrote the book I recommend have been raising PDFs for over a decade.

Out of curiosity, what would happen if you were to touch it?
