Re: Poison dart frogs?
lots of great information in this thread. I was originally going to do a dart frog vivarium, until I realized I would have to breed fruit flies. No thanks.
yes they need real plants frog moss (the dry kind) is NOT good for them They need real moss, the kind they can hop on. They need running water, high humidity and high temps Once you get a good vivarium set up, they pretty much do take care of themselfs, minus the feeding and the addition of water. Many vivariums have built in misters to help keep it at the right moisture level. Here is a GREAT vivarium website I found, for those interested. I'm also a member there, but don't post much. They have an entire forum just for frogs! Vivarium Forum ![]()

Re: Poison dart frogs?
Mattering on what Dendrobates spp. the 29g should be big enough. I would bet that it a common spp. So each frog about 2.5-4cm. High temps and lighting aren't required. 21-27C is a acceptible range. A good uv light could be used if planning for live plants Brom's are almost a need in a dart frog cage for hiding and breeding. If possible set the tank up with a automatic mister and a False bottom so it stays moist, but won't flood. 60-100% Relative humidity is needed based on spp. The hardest part is tank set up after that feeding and cleaning isn't too much work feed daily fruit flys, spingtails, or small crickets. If your able to drill a hole in the floor of the terri for a sump drain than just pore water though monthy to clean.

[quote=schlegelbagel;123532]They need running water, high humidity and high temps
QUOTE] Theres only two spp. of dart frogs that really need running water to simulate breeding, True most people make use of filtered ponds or waterfalls to keep the water clean, But this is not really a need they can easily be kept with a shallow water bowl. I've found a sump drain the best way to manage keeping the terris from becoming filled with water. Note dart frogs are not great swimmers they will drowned.

Re: Poison dart frogs?
Thanks guys, this thread is a few months old and I did not take them as I felt I did not have the time to research and be able to properly care for them, however I have learned a lot from your links
I am so glad I did not take them as I got a HUGE HERD of others shortly after that, lol. I would have pulled my hair out![]() |
