Our crestie, Vao...

And unfortunately, it looks like it was our fault.

Cory went in night before last to check on the critters, and Vao was headfirst inside a piece of bamboo we had put in for a hide. We knew that we would soon have to take the bamboo out, as the Crested Geckos were getting a lot bigger, but didn't think it was a problem yet.

Next morning, Vao was still in the exact same position.

As far as we can tell, he got his head stuck in the bamboo and couldn't get out. He was really wedged in when we tried to remove him, and his face had what looked to be rub abbrasions on it from trying to get out... at least, that's what we HOPE it was... we are keeping a very close eye on the remaining two but they seem hale and healthy. Certainly, they all were, it was just last week Cory did a photo shoot.

Man it really bites when one of your animals dies and for something that should have been preventable.

Needless to say, the bamboo is now out of there.

R.I.P. little buddy... we'll miss you...

Geez Dee I'm sorry to hear that about Vao. I know how bad it feels just to have it happen without the realization that we inadvertantly contributed to their demise. Some lessons in our servitude come to us in a harsh way.

Oh Dee I'm so sorry to hear about your tragic loss. Don't go on blaming yourself - it's too late now and at least you have learned from it, it was a simple mistake that anyone could make. Rest in peace Vao

Thanks guys... Like I said, it was something we knew would have to be attended to eventually, we just didn't realize that "eventually" was NOW. A sad lesson learned... We've both been completely paranoid about the other two in the tank (we've had them out for inspection at least four times in the last 36 hours lol) just in case it was something OTHER than getting stuck, but they still seem happy and healthy, thank goodness.
