This morning when my brother went to feed Spike, he found her on her basking shelf dead. We have no idea why as she wasn't exhibiting any symptoms of illness.

She had laid a clutch of eggs about two weeks ago, so perhaps there was some kind of trouble (even though she acted normal since laying). Shasta had passed away in January, so perhaps there was a shared infection.

Sorry to hear that, is he going to have a necropsy done? Does he have other herps in the house who may be able to catch anything if there was an infection going around?
