Hopefully they can solve the mystery behind the motive for the shooting. People really need to have things like that explained so they can put some sense to it. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families as well. As well as to the family of the shooter which are probably as shocked as everyone else.

Its so senseless!
And they have determined that the shooter at least in the second group of shooting was a student. It seems that the first shooting in the dorms was pretty much just written off as a domestic disturbance. 2 hours later another shooting rampage took place inside the school itself.

Apparently they do not really know if there was more than one.
Have to wait for the ballistics tests.

ok, according to the AP article I just saw, "Ballistics tests show one gun was used in two attacks on the campus Monday morning". (one gun, but they found 2 guns on the shooter...?) They still refuse to say if the 2 shootings are actually related and are looking at other "people of interest". Come on with all the agencies working on this can't they get better answers in 24 hours?

I heard this morning that one of the guns he had on him, was matched to both crime scenes.
The whole article on his creative writings is scary.

Its too disturbing.
And reading that article I got the impression that you don´t need a special permit to buy a gun in US.
Is that a fact or that´s only in some States?

I think that it varies by state, and Virginia is big on hunting and such, they usually require a background check that takes a few days. It's really not too hard to get a gun though, there are permits for carrying the gun, but it was a pistol, too easily concealed. None of my professors brought it up, it will probably just get swept under the rug, it's such a shame...

As Cody says it varies from state to state but for the most part anyone can get a handgun as long as you have never been convicted of a felony or have been commited to a mental institution.
I know when I went to get mine (maaaaany years ago) all you had to do was fill out a form declaring that neither of these situations applied to you. Its my understanding that they do a more thorough background check now.
