Nope, your not! I don't have one either. Although I do have one on my Christmas list! I didn't think I would want to give up my cd's but since I got my daughter an mp3 earlier in the summer, I have found that it is really easy to just go to walmart.com and download whatever song you want for 88 cents instead of dishing out money for a whole cd where you might only listen to one song.

Re: MP3s vs. CDs
of course my hubby hasn't started his collection yet. We decided its safer to have the entire collection on both computers. I'll be copying mine over to the external hard drive where he can drag and drop the files into his itunes. It will be lots faster than going through the CDs one by one again. There are a few I didn't import that he likes, so he will still have to go through them all. Now we will have the majority of our music in 3 locations, so I feel pretty good about not losing much (or anything) if we have a catostrophic hard drive crash.

Re: MP3s vs. CDs
ok, real dinosaur here. I still have records and a player. 8 tracks. cassettes. A few years ago I decided to get some cds, so I could archive them and take them to the barn to use in my office. My kids fill a lot of space on the computers with music. I have a few things on the computer, but have had a lot of crash problems in the past with my old sony laptop. It finally bit the big one, and me with pictures on it that hadn't been transferred to the external hard drive yet. (4-H dog & horse shows, etc). My kids claim to be frightened when I play my old records! Lots of Neil Young, Neil Diamond, cheech and chong, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and assorted other old goodies.

As long as you play something other than the old goodies as well.
My father was kind of a set in his way kind of guy. When I was growing up, all we ever listened to, ever, was bubblegum pop music from the 50s and 60s and a little from the 70s. Trust me, very little of it was cool. And because you can't put out new oldies, we got to listen to the same things over and over and over. I basically only listened to oldies and instrumentals (okay, I love instrumental/classical music still, but I didn't have that forcefed down my throat) until like '99 when I started driving and got to listen to whatever I wanted to on the radio. Then I finally began to enjoy music instead of dread it.
As long as you're not doing that to your kids, you're better with music than my dad was.
