A little won't hurt, some people give their monitors dog food occasionally though. I wouldn't.

I believe some dog food contains dyes that are toxic to reptiles? I'm not an expert in monitors either, but a little probably won't cause any lasting damage. You might want to think of a cage lock or something to make sure he can't get out unattended again.
*Edit* Sorry, I just realised it said while you had him out.. so scrap that last comment! And in future just make sure there's nothing within his reach that he might eat which he shouldn't

Alot of people feed there monitors and even WD dog food...I dont agree with this personally because it has no nutritional value for the animal and may even harm it...so Im sure a little wont hurnt but I wouldnt reccomend allowing it to happen more then this.

I know some people use all natural dog food (i thinks it's called 'spot's stew') if they are in a pinch and out of the animals usual food. I have a couple cans put away for days that I might be inexplicably absent from home so my sister can just pop the top and throw them that because I know she isnt going to want to mix up skink food for me. (its a long process that takes alot of work, and if you dont do it just right then they refuse it)
Either way, its okay that he got a mouthful last night, but I wouldnt start feeding it to him regularly. |

I know of people who feed their Savannahs and/or Tegus dog food as a fairly regular part of their diet... Not a daily thing, more of a supplement type deal. I think they're pretty careful about the ingredients, though.
