I think that you left off about a couple of dozen extra zeros!

Savanna are primarily incestuous, but if set up properly can be feed rodents once or twice a week

Actually, savannah monitors are only primarily incestuous in captivity, where breeders force them to breed with their own siblings
LOL! Before this goes any further down that road, I beleive that the word Greg was going for was "insectivorous", NOT incestuous!

I know, I thought it was funny, so I was playing on that.

Here is a pretty good article on the topic...

Re: Feeding Savanna Monitors
Can't we just agree the best diet for a newby that has very little knowledge in the keeping of savs!!
If i was still keeping savs i'd feed insects main & mice etc as very rare treats, the debate is about getting the the new keeper passed a year, so they have some chance of learning how to keep the animal alive long term, this debate don't change the fact that many savs die very quickly in captivity in a short period of time.
Re: Feeding Savanna Monitors
The sad part of it is that with all this back and forth ad infinitum, the novice is just going to get all glassy eyed and be more confused then he was.
If they don't fall asleep from reading the same things posted over,... and over,... and over,... and over,... and,....
Re: Feeding Savanna Monitors
The biggest killer is the conditions, not diet, that`s the most important message...
We were supposed to be putting a basic careguide together, I think it must have got lost in the post (mail)!? ;)
Re: Feeding Savanna Monitors
There's already a care guide out there. Savannahmonitor.org

I know I'm just fueling the fire, but is that insinuating that savannahmonitor.org is not reliable?
