    Savannah Monitor Cage Size

    Hi all,
I have the opportunity to adopt a 1.5 yr old male sav that is 3ft long and very healthy.
My question is, what is the optimal cage size for these guys?
I was thinking about 6 1/2ft L X 3 1/2 ft W X 4ft tall. sliding glass doors on the front, the rest out of wood, being 4 ft tall would give room for substrate and climbing areas or is that too tall?

I think what was recommended to me was about 8x4x4, though yours sounds pretty spacious too. 4 feet is not too tall. Savs will still climb low obstacles and platforms, even as adults, so installing those, in addition to your soil, will probably make very good use of your space.

I think it`s always best to go as big as possibe with varanids, but I agree, the size you mention would suffice, particularly if you can give the monitor some exercise outside of the enclosure on a regular basis. I`m pleased you`re getting a monitor, like Dragoness, it will make you`re busy life even more interesting!

The very min 6x4x4high for a male & 8x4x4high for a female, but bigger the better as long as the lizard feels secure.
The reason i say 8x4x4 for the female is there's a chance she might lay eggs without been mated, so the extra 2x4 will give her more nesting options.

    Thank you all,
He will get a ton of exercise out of the cage, all of our animals have time out of their cages every week, with the exception of the tarantula LOL he stays put....the new monitor, name pending will also be joining the group of animals that we use for educational purposes, so during the summer time he will have a ton of outdoor exposure and exercise, weeee I am getting so excited, getting out my crayolas and drawing up the plans!
