    Mega Ray Heat Projectors

For a month now I've been using Mega Ray's 60 watt heat projectors in place of halogen floods.

I'm getting the same temps. at the same distance as i was with 75 watt outdoor floods. There seems to be a wider temperature spread as apposed to floods with a bit of a center hot spot.
They do run hotter to the touch than advertised, 140-180 degrees as apposed to the advertised 120, but still much cooler than bulbs.

One more definite plus, no more "yellow lizards". I can adjust the light spectrum to more naturally show the monitors colors.

I will be using them as well, if I ever get my habitat finished.
Great idea with the pvc pipe. Never thought of that.

    Re: Mega Ray Heat Projectors

Five months into using the MegaRay heat projectors only three, of seven, have not failed. Six months is the least life I’ve gotten out of halogen floods. At $20 each, I can get 2-3 halogens for that price. From an economic standpoint they are a bust.

They seem fairly fragile, cracking/breaking near the base. Although they initially continued to work after cracking, I assume that’s a contributing factor in their demise.

    Oh well, back to floods!

Do you have them on a timer?? There seems to be something about them that blows them out faster if they are put on and off by a switch. Don't know why but it is true. If you do have them on a timer than I am with Merlin on contacting Bob about it. He will answer you..

Yeah, I would get in touch with someone and let them know that this problem has been happening. They might not realize it and could possibly do something to better the product.
