Just a quick question, can a red ackie and a yellow ackie be housed together? Can they breed as regular yellows and reds would? I was thinking they can, different morphs can be bred like in a lot of reptiles like panther chameleons and snakes and such. I had a conversation with a man in NJ(never going to NJ again) that owned a run down pet store. He said that they couldn't breed/live together. He also had his chameleons in 10 gallon flat tanks so I don't think hes very knowledgeable in the reptile field.

Yes they can be kept together. But as with all lizards watch out for aggression and stress. They can be bred but please don't. What do you want with a Red-Yellow cross. It's neither a Red nor Yellow so it's nothing. Keep them pure. There's not enough people breeding them as it is.

No no no, breeding wasn't my point at all. I dont own any ackies yet, and I was just making sure my point of the argument was right. I wouldnt cross breed them, I feel crossbreeding is wrong, especially if put into the hands of the wrong greedy people. Unfortunately to some people, reptiles are just a way to make money and they have no concerns for the well-being of the animal.

Reds and Yellows have all the same characteristics except Reds are a bit larger. Often Yellow Ackies can have red coloring in them as well as Reds can have Yellow coloring in them.

No problem, I'd jump down a suspected cross breeders throat if I had the chance :P. I think I'm going to pick up a trio of yellows at the end of August. No reason to pay more money when you can never really know if they are true reds or not.

I'm currently breeding my trio of yellows. I lucked out when I bought 3 hatchlings and ended up with two females. In the fall I hope to buy a trio of Reds from someone I know has "true" reds. I'd like to slowly move up the ladder to the more expensive Dwarfs.

Yea, monitors are awesome. I'd maybe like to work with some timors also. I wish I had the space to house a larger monitor, and let me know when you get some babies from your reds. If you have a couple extra I'm sure I could take a few off your hands
