moni's are very hardy easy lizards to keep...dont stress yourself to much i only use UV on the basking herps..the ones that dont hide alot..its pretty much pointless to put UV on a tank with a lizard thats in a log or under substrate IG,s,dry climate mon'i's,Bearded Dragon's...etc..<--UV some skinks, and geckos dont need any at all...

speaking of geckos I should post pics of my new female crestie's!lol hope I helped!

Re: New Sav Monitor

Hey question guys my little guy, I got him and he sleeps but he digs and kinda sleeps under the dirt is this normal? I thought he would go under his log or something but he digs then buries his head in the dirt. I thought there was something wrong with him so I rubbed his back and he hissed at me is this normal for sleep?

Re: New Sav Monitor

His natural instinct is to sleep in a burrow. Your substrate can't facilitate this so he is doing the next best thing.(in his mind)
He will do this for a while until he gets used to is new surroundings.
Remember above all else reptiles want to feel secure FIRST.

Re: New Sav Monitor

He might not eat too much for a bit as he'll be stressed out from the move and the new surroundings.

Re: New Sav Monitor

It's been a while since I've had a Sav. I better let someone else answer that question.

Re: New Sav Monitor

hmm well that could be true its only like 85 right now. Hes maybe 8 inches , I was having a problem keeping it warm in the tank, but I found out that I need to cover the top where the lights are not to keep the temp much higher.
