new Sav setup

Hey all I am in the process of designing my new sav enclosure. I was looking for any advice seeing how the little dragons seem to be able to tear through about anything. This will be his second to last enclosure (we will hopefully be buying a house within the next year so then he gets final one --- oh the visions) Anyway I was thinking about 8' long 4' deep and 4' tall. He is currently 20 1/4". Is this going to be large enough for the year duration? I can make it larger. My other issue is the wood. I was planning on using plywood wood coated with an epoxy or something similar . I need to make sure it will hold up to those vicious claws and curious minds sav's have. I know I need to seal the wood due the the dirt substrate, but just trying to bounce around ideas for durability, functionality and health concerns. Any thoughts or suggestions would be very beneficial.
Thanks
Brian and Malawi

Definitely sounds big enough to me. I know two different adult savvy's local to me that are both kept in smaller cages. Perhaps the difference is that they get to frequently come out and explore. I wouldn't say they free-roam, but they get their exercise and seem perfectly comfortable in their cages. Yours sounds perfectly adequate to me.

Once they're adults they'll slow down quite a bit and be less active. They'll still move about during the day, just not with as much haste or vigour. At that point space, while still high priority, takes second-seat to other proper conditions like appropriate heat, basking, hides, etc, particularly considering they should have calmed down considerably and will be able to come out for longer periods of time.

Again, the size you've chosen sounds adequate to me.

I can't imagine a Sav needing more than a 4x8 enclosure. Sounds like you really want the best for him. Mine have always enjoyed a soaking/drinking tub on one end and a hide-out on the other end. A lot of times they will defficate in the tub. Although you have to make sure to sanitize the tub properly, it should keep the overall enclosure more sanitary until you have something like a vision that is easier to keep perfectly clean.

Good luck!
