Question :)
Hoedy folks-- 1st post here! Question for the pros:
My son really wants to add a reptile to our 75 gal. Paludarium. If is 2/3 water and 1/3 land area, with the water being about 10" deep. The water is filtered thru a cannister and comes back into the tank from the base of a small tree trunk. We have both live plants above and below the waterline, and enough branches to create plenty of climbable space. The humidity is around 80% right now but can be controlled with a mister for the most part. The temp is mid 70s for both water and air inside. There are 2 fire belly toads in now that will be relocated, and some small guppies. Maybe this is too damp for a reptile but figured id ask.... any thoughts on what type (if any) would like this set-up? Or are we gonna have to stick with amphibians...my son wants a lizard or snake but the wife doesnt want another tank.... any help would be appreciated! thanks |

Hmm, well, I will say you're probably better of sticking to amphibians. There aren't any good beginner lizards that would do well in that environment. Definately none that are good for handling.
You could possibly keep a mountain horned dragon in there, but ideally they should have a vertical enclosure. You'd also need a screen lid, UVB light, and some more climbing branches. All MHDs should have a fecal exam too cause they're wild caught and highly stressed, usually containing internal parasites. A green tree python might be suitable, but again, a vertical enclosure is best. Perhaps someone that knows more about these snakes can give you a better answer than me. I know they're not cheap snakes though.

Water Dragon? If you had more heat.
I would go with tree frogs if I had that. It could be a beautiful setup and colony.

White's Tree frogs are really cool. I've handled them before and they are the tamest and easiest to handle frogs I've ever seen. They are so cute too. I would definitely have a few if I didn't already have so many pets.
