Empty 55

I have an empty 55 gallon tank. It's begging me to be filled. I'm looking for a good no-nonsense lizard to give my boyfriend as a gift. (he misses his 5 foot iguana horribly) The rules are, that it has to be a simple lizard that will never outgrow the tank. He is experienced with herps and I don't know what to get him. It doesnt matter much of it is a sociable animal. Suggestions?

I say you donate the tank to me, and give him a plastic lizard. I hear they're very low maintinence, and easy to handle

lol, nah, um, how about a painted agama (Laudakia stellio brachydactyla) from tropheusfreak If not a painted, then maybe another Bearded Dragon, a uromastyx, hmm, there's a lot of lizards out there.

It would really be better to find out what he is interested in as opposed to a, "here this will fit" lizard. There are a lot of things that will fit the tank but make sure it is something that he will enjoy and be interested in.
But for personality its hard to top a Bearded Dragon.

Hello,

A colony of leopard geckos! They are great lizards, entertaining to watch, low maintenance, and there are a variety of morphs on the market.

OR, you could put some funds to the side, go to a reptile show in your area, and let him choose the reptile he is most comfortable with.

He likes just about everything, aside from leopard geckos....he makes fun of mine for her fat tail. He's been looking pretty seriously at an agama of some sort or an armadillo lizard. Reptile shows in our area? I WISH! I don't know, he's open to anything, but he's lookin mainly into something that he hasn't had before. We've got all the time in the world to figure it out though.

Lacey, I've done a bit of research, and it looks like there will be a show in Hillsboro, WA around September 23-25. I don't have specifics, but you may be able to find more information at the Pacific Northwest Herpetological Society's website. If it's not listed, there is contact information (with a phone number) on the site.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks Steph....thats still a 6 hour drive, and if I bring anything home for myself, i'm pretty sure i'll be homeless...maybe i'll just send the boyfriend with a fist full of cash and a roundtrip bus ticket so I dont accidentally come home with something that was "too cute to pass up"
