Gravid collard?

Check out the very faint orange markings developing on our female collard lizard, which means she is either ready for breeding or already gravid. Joe saw the two adults circling each other and doing the mating ritual so hopefully she's going to lay us some eggs soon! Quite late in the year, but the same time as last year. Wish us luck!

Hehe certainly will Marsha

Thanks esbat,. they can lay from 1-12 eggs, but average is about 5 or 6. Last year we had two fertile clutches from her, one of 6 eggs and one of 7 eggs. Unfortunately she laid them both on the dry substrate (she seems to hate her lay box so some fresh ideas are in mind for this year!!), and some dried up but we managed to get 6 or 7 babies out in total, one of them we kept (our little gal Roo).

Will keep you all updated - here's hoping she takes to laying in the right place this time! Collard babies are adorable!

As a side note,. typical male, now Leo has done his business he has gone off to rest while poor Piper roams around restlessly!

do collards lay eggs reguardless of being fertilized or not? I'm just curious, my friend recently bought a collard and i'm doing all of the care taking! She's so terrible about it.....she just forgets things....i think shes taken too many blows to the head!

Ah pure madness!! Hehe thanks Andrea.. most of the baby corns are doing great, eating lots and growing fast. Quite a few are going to new homes this weekend. There are a couple of fussy feeders, but we keep forcing half-pinkies down them and we'll get them there in the end I hope.

Otherwise all well. Two of our Leopard Geckos just had their first clutches although one hadn't been mated with and the others weren't fertile but never mind, hopefully next time!

Moshpitrockchick - I presume so. The other lizards can so I don't see why collards wouldn't. Why do you ask? - has yours laid some? It is possible, but if your friend only recently acquired the lizard it's best to incubate any eggs rather than throw them in the bin, as it is possible she was mated previously.
Also, perhaps your friend shouldn't buy animals if she can't take care of them.? Just a thought.
