Sexing Question
Okay, I've finally received my long awaited blue tongued skinks. Unfortunately the lady who sold them to me hasn't the slightest clue as to what their sex may be. I've read that they don't have pre-anal pores or hemi-penal bulges, so my question is, how in the heck do I figure out their sexes? They are pretty similar when held side by side, but one is larger with a larger head, it is more golden where as the smaller one is grey and has a fuller body. The longer one is much more slender. The larger one hisses and displays its tongue more, the smaller one has a more mild temper. Neither seem territorial and they both just ignore the other lizards. I do not live near a qualified reptile vet that I would trust to probe my lizards, especially considering that I read that it is very hard to do in skinks with out unintentionally sterilizing the males. i'll attach the picture that was on the add, but that is all I can give you to work with since I do not have a digital camera.

Yeah, I can't get them probed with out driving hours away. the vets here are very sloppy about what they do and I have yet to find one that I would trust. I'm sorta thinking that they are both female. I dunno. Do they use a blood sample to DNA test them or what? Is there a specific lab that all of the samples go to? This option sounds like a possibility.

Yes, when a DNA test is performed a blood sample is needed. It's usually done by a vet. I see that you are near Spokane, Wa. Here's two vets in Spokane that specialize in reptiles and other exotics. Maybe one of them can help.
