    Lara's Pics and her tail

    Bluegene's Pics and his tail

I don't have pics of O-Ushi yet, she's getting cranky about not having her old cave I think. She hides more now, I'll be getting more branches for them soon.

    Re: Emerald Belly Moving? O.o

Sorry for the back to back, seems I timed out my ability to edit...

From all that I can see I would be suprised if Nav is a female. I can't see the base of the tail or throat coloration but from above Nav sure looks male. Saw the pic on another thread, it could be water distortion that makes Nav's tail look thicker at the base, but the browner head does lend tward female.

Most regular pet stores that get Emeralds only pick up the males as the females don't sell. I do hope you have a female because Nave sure is brilliantly colored for a female and that would be cool.

I'd like to know what breeders you talked to about Emeralds, I'm currious about their high mortality rates. These lizards only have litters of up to 6 (avg) every other year in nature and that would not bode well for the species as a whole.

I got them at an expo, where they were actually under the table, my friend just happened to spot them. I don't know if they made any claims about the sexes or if my friend even asked. It went something like this:
    "Hey come over here!"
    "I'm over here, what?"
"Tell this guy about your Jones."
-while talking, friend goes out to car, comes back with carriers, has apparently already paid for them as they are immediately loaded up-
"Hey, I got these for you."
"Uh, what are they? And why do I need more lizards right now?"
"You have an empty tank, and he sold them to me for $6 each since I told him you'd talk to him about Herp."
    "Well they are pretty."

I might be a total sucker and a half.

As to the breeders, I haven't spoken with any, I was perusing breeding information on Mr. Google and found five separate breeders who all effectively said, "High mortality rates." Again, this is from breeders, so I'm aware it isn't made of gold. I'd like to find a journal article, but have yet to have any luck with that.

I know I'm no help at all in the identification of the males and females, but I can't help but giggle. Your "followed me home" story gets better with every telling. You're lucky you didn't just come home and find them there waiting to be fed! There wasn't any drinking prior to the expo visit was there? :P

That has actually happened before... I'm kind of glad my dad doesn't work for animal welfare anymore.

Well, it was at 10am on a Saturday, so... not much. Kidding. There was actually LOTS. :b Bahaha, I have a terrible sense of humour.

Question Re: Emerald Belly Moving? O.o

I'm not making a separate thread simply because all of the relevant information is already in this thread:

Roy has still yet to come out of his hide since being separated. I'm getting a new aquarium today (I believe it's a 40 gal from the description), would it be terrible to put Roy and Nav back in the same enclosure? Turq is going to stay in his own regardless, and I'm getting the tank regardless, the question is just whether I should put them back together or leave them separate.

Turq is clearly much happier alone, even though his current tank is too small (hence why I'm getting the new tank regardless, currently Turq and Nav are in 10 gals, so I'm getting 2 new tanks, at least 20 gals, preferably 30+, just depends on what I can find), and Nav seems largely indifferent. Opinions? I know it was mentioned that they are very territorial, I'm just a bit at a loss with Roy.

    Re: Emerald Belly Moving? O.o

It took my male "Bluegenes" about a week of being peeved off at me for the move from the 40 to a 20. O-Ushi is still not happy and hides alot, but she hid alot in the 40 so... Lara was peeved off for about a day and is now just fine.

Hard to say what any one critter will do faced with that kind of stress. If you put them together again just keep an eye out and have plenty of hides for them, that will ease the pressure of having another lizard so close. My use of visual barriers worked wonders for the most part.

Well, if I put them together, it would be in the 40 gal with 2 moist hides, 2 non-moist hides, multiple climbing branches and basking spots, and three 6" potted ivies. I would also put in the ceramic pie dish and another smaller pool. I'll give it a few more days for him to get acclimated to see if it makes a difference, I just feel bad that the most outgoing one is the one that is now hiding, doubly so considering he is the one that didn't switch tanks, and is currently in the largest tank. :/

I'm hoping the tank I'm getting this evening really is a 40 long, but if it's not, then Turq will go in it and I'll break down and pay the $70 for a 40 long. Having unhappy lizards makes my neuroticism light flash uncontrollably. >.<

Cleaning out Nav's tank tonight I found red poop. I'm concerned, as you might imagine. I'm going to take "her" to the vet tomorrow along with stool samples of the other two. DwarvenChef, ever heard of anything like that in emerald's specifically?

Not in emeralds spacificly, only when parasites are involved, hope things go well for you. Hope your vet is good with small lizards.
