Mountain Horned Dragon
Does anyone on here own a mountain horned dragon and can somebody confirm that they only reach up to 3 years of age?
I read that somewhere and think it's quite a short life for a dragon¨?!?!!! Thanks! |

I think much of the literature says that because the vast majority mountain horned dragons currently found in the pet trade are wild caught specimins. Their age is unknown, and due to parasite load, stress, and so forth, often don't live much beyond that. I think the actual lifespan is more likely closer to that of most other agamid lizards, in the 7 year range, but I don't know for sure.

Hi Jacky,
I kept Mountain Horned Dragons for a couple of years. They were wild caught adults (1 male & 2 females), of unknown age. The male, a rescue, succumbed to renal failure after a year of battling with and recovering from dehydration, anorexia and parasites. The damage was too severe. I just gave the females to my brother, who fell in love when he met them. I sent you a pm, with a website that has alot of information on MHD |

I think they live longer than that, but like said, they're often so overloaded with stress, parasites, dehydration, and the like, plus the fact that most of the people that buy one don't know much about them, means they generally don't live as long as they should.
This is one of my favorite sites on MHDs: http://www.froggieb.com/MHDHome.html
