This is Roo..
She was the last collard that we produced, and was due to be sold a few weeks ago, however the buyer never turned up, so we decided to grow her on a bit and try and sex her. Now I've had chance to compare her to Donna's little Ozzy I'm almost certain Roo is a she, and Ozzy a he,. Roo has not developed the red/orange stripes/spots that juv. males develop, she has less prominent pores, and has a rounder head and body.. what do you think Donna?.. a nice girlfriend for Ozzy?? - if you can, post some recent pics of him to show the difference. If Roo is a she we are lucky, and very pleased! We wanted to keep a female back, but as hatchlings they are all identical and it is nigh on impossible to sex them. Fingers crossed.. P.S.Now i've named her.. we have to keep her don't we!! ![]()

See, that's what I thought! Ah well, I guess she'll HAVE to stay with us!
They are very photogenic lizards I might add - I've never known an animal to pose so much for the camera, but these collards seem to love being shot! They even appear to smile for the camera! ![]()

Heres some pics of Ozzy I just took, hes just trying to jump on my monitor now as I type lol, and running across my keyboard, there is definately a difference in appearance between the two of them, Roo looks fatter and rounder, and colours are totally different,

Great pics Donna! Ozzy is such a little sweetie! Now if only Roo will calm down and be as tame as her brother!
You'll notice on the third pic of Ozzy that he has a distinct dewlap appearing as well which Roo lacks. He also has his "bumps" appearing ![]()

WoW Rachel, i couldn't believe it, i just tried Ozzy with a medium sized locust and it went down a treat, didn't think he would manage it, i have been giving him the tiny ones and he didnt seem all that interested in them, so I just thought, hmmm see how he goes with the bigger ones, and he attacked it wooosh, and enjoyed every mouthfull bless him, so I gave him a few more, so im going to get him the bigger ones in future, he looked like he really enjoyed it, and after seeing your little one, Ozzy looks like he could do with fattening up bit,
I will keep the smaller ones for my spiderlings, i'm sure they will enjoy em, so at least they wont go to waste ![]() |

These guys bring back a lot of memories for me. I harrassed a lot of them as kid since they are native to my area. They really weren't very friendly and I got more than one bite!I did love seeing them get up on their hind legs and run like a T Rex though!

Haha we are yet to see our little one do that yet Merlin, she's not quite as trust-worthy as Ozzy
But we saw him do the hind-leg run at Donna's the other day, I was almost in tears laughing!! Such entertainment!!Donna, that's the beauty of collards,. unlike beardeds and some other lizards, they can eat anything that fits in their mouths!! He would probably even give Tolkien a run for his money -don't worry about feeding him up, I think he eats far more than Roo! His body shape and size is just different, typical of males and females. Now I just need to get Roo to stop jumping back in her tank when I get her out and get her on the floor to exercise those hind-legs ![]()
