re: Can't Decide!
I was reading different info on them and most sites recommended 6-8 feet by 4 feet. Does that sound accurate? Any additional info wuld be great. I actually think having a lizard that large would be sweet, but need to make sure I have time for their requirements. Anyone able to tell me how much time a day they spend on maintenance?

That size enclosure would be huge for an Ackie, and heating that size enclosure to the correct temperature might be difficult. Most V. acanthurus breeders here in Australia use around a 4 x 2 - 6 x 2.

Oh I was looking on a general monitor site, I think it was actually referring to a savanah's cage.

re: Can't Decide!
The big difference with most mons is the heating, desert species require massive amounts of heat. I keep a Spencers monitor, they come from one of the hottest areas of Australia, I have the ambient at over 30 - 40 deg Celsius, hot spot at 70 deg celsius. I could bake bread in it's enclosure. Bluetongues on the other hand, will thrive in a warm room, with a minimal size basking light, just so easy to care for.

re: Can't Decide!
Are sav. monitors friendly? I see they get 3-4 feet which would be awsome. I would probably be able to make a cage for one also and the general set up of the tank shouldn't be too hard, just need to read! Thanks everyone!

You see that is a problem. Any large reptile can be a dangerous animal. They are not a domesticated animal and will always retain that wildness. Simply wanting something big without regard to anything else may easily get you in a lot of trouble!

re: Can't Decide!
Yeah, I noticed they are basically wild animals and do what they do. I see exactly what you mean and I've noticed this with my other animals, for example my leopard gecko. Friendliest guy ever, but one time I actually had him bite me, of course it didn't hurt, but things happen! I of course will not jump into anything without being 100% ready for it. I learned that with saltwater and some pets in the past.

re: Can't Decide!
In the monitor world, ackies are small. They get maybe 3 feet. Most of the time less. Savannah monitors I believe grow to around 4 feet. Yeah uros don't need that big of an enclosure, do some research on ackies and uros.
