3 Top Choices?
Right now I'm all set with my corn snake and my two leopard geckos. But in the future (probably months or more cause I'm probably not going to be able to convince my father for my birthday lol) I was hoping to get a medium sized lizard, I've narrowed it down to either a bearded dragon, a blue tongue skink, or a uromastyx . I've kept a Bearded Dragon before and she was great but my father ended up making me get rid of her because he wanted a dog and he said I'd be to many animals..although even now he says he regrets getting rid of Lucky (her name). But I either want one of those three but its such a hard choice.
A Bearded Dragon is extremely friendly and fun, but the one thing my dad won't except is all the crickets it'll need, when I had Lucky she was eating 24 of them a day plus superworms and her salad lol. The bluey from what i've read is also extremely friendly but doesn't need insects as a stable in its diet and most of everything it need to eat can be bought at the grocery store including the veggies fruit an canned cat/dog food. and supposaly they don't need UV although its recommended. but you have to look around for captive bred ones. And the uros are pretty much 99% vegetarian and don't need any insects except for a rare treat. They are extremely interesting and and come in many colors and species. Although they need large amounts of room, extreme temps., and like the blues you need to look around for captive bred ones. Also i'm unsure of there personalities I've heard some are skittish and some are pretty much like Bearded Dragons. Any suggestions would help and and details that i should know or got incorrect let me know thanks!

Re: 3 Top Choices?
I would be hesitant on using cat/dog food for any reptile, or any other animal that isnt a cat or dog. Its made for cats/dogs, not reptiles, and could have some adverse health effects, even death sometimes. I know you can find canned reptile food, but Id be careful and check ingredients to make sure its something thats actually going to be good for your reptile, and doesnt contain any fillers. I dont mean to nag, but Ive heard some horror stories about feeding cat and dog food, and even canned reptile food... specially the cheaper brands... You may be able to use baby food in exchange for what meat the bluey may need (pot roast, lamb, chicken baby food) you should check with your vet on that one, and if you get a go ahead with the baby food, make sure its 100% meat with no fillers, such as corn starch, ect...

Re: 3 Top Choices?
well its supossed to be low fat dog/cat food, i've looked on bluetongueskinks.net and they recommend it and all their members use it as the main source of protein in their diet.

Re: 3 Top Choices?
Low fat premium cat food is frequently recommended for Blue Tongue Skink. Along with all the other stuff that you can feed them.
They are little garbage cans!

Re: 3 Top Choices?
I have a Blue Tongue Skink and I feed it cat food. They do recommend a varied diet and cat food on Blue Tongue Skink.net. So I feed mine cat food with collard greens and some fruit. I use a food processor that I got from Wal-mart for ten bucks. I use raspberries and banana and sometimes apple. I fed him cooked chicken breast that I boiled on the stove and he loved that! But I sure didnt when he had the runs and pooped smeared the enclosure! lol
I use Iams cat food and eagle pack also. I am going to drive today btw 45 minutes this afternoon to Petco cause thats the only place I can get the most recommended cat food...Spot's stew. I wanna see if he likes that one it has really good stuff in that...you can actually read the ingredients easily lol. I have a MVB for mine I dont want to risk Metabolic Bone Disease. And I sprinkle calcium powder on his food once a week.

Re: 3 Top Choices?
On bluetongueskinks.net their caresheet says they can have natural or low fat cat food(the expensive brands) and cooked meats like chicken as a stable along with fruits and veggies and insects, snails, and pinkie mice offered every now and then?

Re: 3 Top Choices?
I think you are mis reading this. They are saying that pinky mice can be offered every now and then, but not constantly, again too much fat. Fruits and veggies and insects, snails, are also staples.

Re: 3 Top Choices?
o I see, that still not so bad because theres so much variety there it's not like you have to keep a huge tank of smelly noisey crickets for it, I could probably get away with a dozen crickets a week, superworms, a snail, fruits, veggies, cook meat, cat food, and a pinkie once in a while?
