Collared Lizards Going Off Food
Hi Everone new to site but have a pressing question.
Two collared lizards normally big eaters but last week will no longer take small hoppers(locusts) and will only eat limited 1-2 wax worms a day and even then not as quickly as normal, don't look impacted and are producing waste ok. Just off food any ideas. Please |

Re: Collared Lizards Going Off Food
Welcome to HerpCenter!
Give us a detailed run down on how they are housed, tank, temperatures, substrate, lighting, etc. The more details we get, the better we may be able to spot something.

Re: Collared Lizards Going Off Food
Hi thanks for any help.
Lizards are both young , female age unknown but less than six months and male born early nov 07. the male is slighly larger 30grams and female 22grams . both good eaters and not messy (take prey clean without sand) sand changed 3 weeks ago to normal fine childerens sand from specialist low impact sand. But both continued to feed ok for two weeks so unlikely to be problem. Viv is 3feet long 18inch deep and 15 inch high with hot end and normal end temp (82 in cold end and 100-120 depending on heat lamp ) underfloor heating also on hot end and a ten UV 24inch bulb 12 inches fron sand but with perches available nearer. temp gradient available to lizards both horizontaly and vertically. One thing has changed the hoppers (locusts) are now white and black from supplier and not browny green have just tried a wax worm and female took one only. Both lizards are still producing waste and have both shed three days ago but this has never stopped them eating in past. |

Re: Collared Lizards Going Off Food
People are going to recommend getting them off the sand all together. Sand is a no good thing in the digestive track. Slate or tile is good.
Is it possible now that they are getting older, they are stressing each other out? Sometimes they don't get along so well with age.
