Re: Hello and Question from a New Dragon Agama Own
Hi All. I was out of town the past couple of days, and just got back. Thanks for all of your welcoming thoughts.
I'm a bit behind on technology (still don't have a digital camera!), but I'll at least try to describe the set up. We have a 20 gallon tank, with a dome heat lamp on one side w/a 60 watt UV bulb, a large rock from our garden that Dragon likes to bask on; a smaller flat rock, and a wooden hut that he sometimes either sits on top of or hides underneath. The opposite side of the tank has a live pathos plant, and an artificial fern w/lots of leaves that goes up to the top of the tank. There's also a water dish that Dragon seems to go into pretty regularly. The substrate is coconut mulch. The temp and humidity gages are about an inch up from the bottom of the tank on the opposite side of the heat lamp. The heat in the dark part of the tank seems to stay about the same as whatever the heat in the house is (just below 70), and the humidity stays in the 80's from the time the light goes off at night (it's on a timer), until around lunchtime, then starts to slip back into the moderate range. I work outside of the home most days, so once the tank is sprayed in the a.m., it usually doesn't get sprayed again until after 5 pm. By then it's often dipped into the moderate range. The real problem is between 5 and 8 until the light goes off. During that time, the house must be especially dry, because I sometimes spray about 3x just in that 3 hour period to keep the humidity up. I left the window up during the day yesterday for the first time all winter because it was pretty warm out, and that seemed to help a bit. As for Dragon himself, from the other pictures I've seen of splendidas, I'm fairly certain that's what he is (green color to skin, w/yellow stripes down the back). As soon as we get a digital camera (we've just been lazy about it), I'll make sure to post his picture. Either that, or I'll take a picture with my regular camera and get it scanned in somehow. thanks again for all of your help, and for welcoming me to the network. |

Re: Hello and Question from a New Dragon Agama Own
Some advice about your humidity problem, since its only 3 hours out of the day I suggest covering half of the top of the enclosure with a warm damp towel, this should keep the humidity at the appropriate level.
Welcome to the HCN, I cant wait to see pics |
