Need information on Japalura

I previously purchased Japalura Splendida (Chinese Tree Dragon)
I'd like to add to my tank, and was wondering which lizards and/or geckos would be compatible with them..

they are in a 30 gal. fish tank which gives them more than enough room, with all the major necessities.

Re: need information

No lizards or geckos. You should never mix species. However, in that size a tank, you could add a few more Splendidas. What substrate are you using? What are your temps and humidity?

Re: need information

i am using 'Eco-Earth' substrate...recommended by the pet store...and the temp is between 75-80 depending on day or night...as for the humidity...i dont have a gauge for it but I mist it 2 times a day with a spray bottle and I have a "pond" big enough for them to lay in.

Re: need information

It's important to keep a humidity gauge in the tank because Splendidas need a high humidity environment. Eco-Earth is a great substrate. Are you using it from a bag or from a brick?

Re: need information

Okay good. make sure you get a humidty gauge as soon as possible. Splendidas need humidity around 80% so, misting once or twice a day might not do it. Just make sure not to introduce any other species okay?

Re: need information

I Looked this specie up online real quick, very cool looking, Might have to look into these guys, Do these guys need UVB? Also, do you have a male, or a female. I know only what I read, but it seemed pretty important not to mix males and males. you could buy one of the little $4 compass looking humidity gauges, but I personaly like the digital Thermometer/Hyrometers, check ebay. One works just as well as the other honestly. Any pictures of yours?

Re: need information

I dont know of many male reptiles that get along, lol. Maybe besides a treefrog or two.
I am not so sure that they even get along,, more like just tolerate the other ones presence, lol

Re: Need information on Japalura

And "the little $4 compass looking humidity gauges" can't be trusted. They are notoriously inaccurate. They work by means of a spring that expands and contracts and it will loosen or become corroded in a high humidity environment.
Go with the digital. It will cost a little more but it actually WORKS!

Re: Need information on Japalura

Yeah, very few ever do, the caresheet I read for these guys seemed to make it sound like its was even more so a big problem with these guys. I do prefer digital, but know many people that use the cheapo ones succesfuly, your probaly right about it not being smart to use them somewhere with the humidity as high as these guys need it. I don't know everyone else's opinion, but I think the thermometers/hydrometers with probes are the way to go, the wall mounts can be a bit more of a pain.
