Idea's for a 10 gallon "grassland"
I have a 10 gallon tank, with a lid, and had Alot of expandable substrate left, (that stuff really does expand, I put two bricks in a bucket, and it broke the bucket) so I set up a habitat that I wanted, however right now there's only a few crickets in it, and i'm looking for a permanant resident, i understand 10 gallons is small, but other than a heat source, i have about everything already, and there' a spot in my room I would not be able to place anything larger. I thought about green anole's, but i'm really hoping I can find a lizard that would stay small, and would not require the UVB lighting, or a small long tailed lizard, but beleive it may get a bit too big fo a 10. I have a Scneiders Skink, And a White-Spotted Wall Gecko, and hope to eventually get leopard gecko's and a Cuban Knight Anole. and hope to fill in this small niche in my "collection" (I hate using that word)

Re: Idea's for a 10 gallon "grassland"
interesting. What you have here is a high humidity set up, that is rather small too. I would suggest some green tree frogs. They are little and stay little and will do fine in a smaller tank. They do not need UVB light either and don't need really high temps. You would have to add a few sticks/branches in there for them to climb on but they would like the hiding spaces in the grass.

Re: Idea's for a 10 gallon "grassland"
I did end up deciding on some type of tree frogs, I really want red eyed tree frogs, but can't spend fifty to sixty dollars a piece. I was at a pet store, and they had one of those tank toppers that expand the tank in clearance for $7, so now its basicly a 20 tall anyway. I also pulled almost all of that grass out, and replaced it with fake plants and flowers, Along with vines, a large pool, and moss layering much of the botom of the tank. in my opinion it looks awsome. thank you for your opinion

You have one major problem with your plan,
That mesh tank topper. It will be impossible to keep the needed humidity in there for tree frogs.

I addressed that in his other thread.
Ryan, you really need to do research on the animal BEFORE you build an enclosure and then try and make it work. It will cause far less headaches in the end.

Re: Idea's for a 10 gallon "grassland"
yeah, this is research. thats why there's no animals in the tank yet. when I finaly get it right, then i'll purchase the frogs. but i'm going to end up buying an all glass tank enclosure for when I get frogs. the tank topper was on clearance for $7, and I knew if I did'nt use it for a frog tank I could put it on my gecko's tank, i know he'd love the space.

Re: Idea's for a 10 gallon "grassland"
You have a gecko in a 10 gal. tank? What kind of gecko? I don't know of any geckos, except for maybe a morning gecko, that should be housed in a 10 gal.

Re: Idea's for a 10 gallon "grassland"
When I got my gecko he was in a ten gallon tank, it's now a twenty tall due to the tank topper, if I had.nt gotten the topper I probaly woud've bought a twenty high. He's a White spotted wall Gecko, rather little guy, seems he'll stay that way from the caresheets I was able to find.

Re: Idea's for a 10 gallon "grassland"
What a little cutie!! I hadn't heard of one before so I did a quick search and was surprised they are another lizard released into the FL fauna and doing extremely well on a damaging level. Just like the green igs and giant snakes being released. You would think that with a smaller gecko someone could easily find it a home with people rather than letting it go...:-(
It is precious though!
