Re: hey im new here
Looks like some species of skink. Most likely the diet will consist of insects approximately the length of the distance between the eyes. Very young crickets for example.
I am assuming from your name that you are in Southern California? Knowing your area will help fine tune exactly which species it is.

Re: hey im new here
Hello,
Welcome to the HC Network. In my opinion, you are holding a baby Red-backed Salamander of some sort. In Massachusetts, we have the Eastern Red-backed Salamander but unless I am mistaken, there is also a north and south. Possibly even a Western.

Re: hey im new here
Whether skink or salamander, it is a cute little thing and I agree either flightless fruit flies or tiny crickets to feed it. Good luck and welcome!

Re: hey im new here
I'm not so sure about it being a salamander. The eyes are too streamlined as opposed to being bulbous, the head is too elongated and the tail looks way too long and thin.
Does the skin look scaley, though with tiny scales or is it slippery and damp?

Re: hey im new here
Is it slick and shiny or soft and sticky?
If it is soft andsticky it's probably a salamander and needs to stay moist, if not it is probably skink, it's hard to tell by the photo.
Are it's legs like this?

Re: hey im new here
I have several little toadlets who were so incredibly tiny when they forst morphed that I could only feed them three things: flightless fruit flies, baby ants, and pinhead crickets. The baby ants are easy to come by - I just find a little army of them somewhere in the yard or shed, then sweep them into a dust pan with a hand broon. However, what they really love are the pinhead crickets. I ordered them from lllreptile. Here's the link: Crickets Pay attention to the bulk discount. The first time I ordered, I didn't pay close enough attention and I ordered 250, whereas I could have had 500 for $1 more! So, that's my suggestion for your extra very cute little guy. -Jen Gal
