My new Emerald Swift

I went to the reptile show this weekend and brought home some new friends. One of them is this guy. An emerald swift male. If anyone has any info that could help me, Im all ears.. er, all eyes.

I have him in a 36x13x18" (35gal I think) with reptile bark, a non-uvb fluoro, a 7% UVB compact fluoro (need a reflector for it and any links would be awesome) some 6x8x1/4" slate pieces, I have branches and artificial vines to wrap around the braches to be added today (they were soaking when the pics were taken), and a water dish. Theres a few crickets in his tank also.

Is there a better substrate? Is there anything I should change? I mist the cage a couple of times a day because I read they like it somewhere around 60%.

On to the pics! Left to right, his belly, his back, his house (incomplete as it may be).

Re: My new Emerald Swift

I'm not sure if a compact flourescent light will put out enough UVB for a swift, but my swift experiences are greatly limited...anyone else have any input?

Re: My new Emerald Swift

I have been told that a Reptisun 5.0,Iguana light 5.0, or Desert light 7.0 at 10-12" would be fine. I have an Arcadia D3 7% UVB CF. I assumed it would be sufficient as well. I will use a dual socket hood so I can put a basking lamp right next to the UVB light.

Anyone have info on ho brightly lit the tank should be?

Re: My new Emerald Swift

Well the tube lights put out more UVB than the compact flourescents because they cover a wider area. The conpacts aren't really useful for most lizards.

Re: My new Emerald Swift

Well shucks. Maybe I can use the CF for my geckos since they supposedly dont need much. I am a bit annoyed that I paid ~$20 for a bulb thats not going to work for me.

Re: My new Emerald Swift

That might be a better way to go about it, look for the long tube lights and make sure they aren't obstructed by screen otherwise they aren't very useful either.

Re: My new Emerald Swift

Well, its gotta have a lid, and it is screen.. Im not sure where to go from here that isnt going to cost >$60.

I also dont really understand why a 7% UVB tube is better than a 7% CF bulb. But you most likely know more than I do, so good enough. Maybe I can return the CF bulb.
